City of Villains: Patron Powers: Ghost Widow

We focus in on the first of four patrons you can follow.

By Jon Wood on April 24, 2006

Lead Designer Matt Miller continues to answer our questions on the patron powers

Building off the last Q&A where we learned what patron powers are, today we talk to City of Heroes/Villains Lead Designer Matt Miller about what the followers of Ghost Widow can expect from the Issue #7 expansion due out soon.

MMORPG.com:First of all, what can you tell our readers about Ghost Widow as a character?
Matt Miller:

She’s as mysterious as she is beautiful, and as deadly as she is cunning. She appears to be an actual spirit from beyond the grave as opposed to a Super with incorporeal powers. The rumors are that she was one of the Night Widows when she was slain, and that her thirst for vengeance must have been so great that she elected to serve at Lord Recluse’s side. Yet more rumors persist that this service isn’t exactly voluntary, however.

MMORPG.com:Is there a common theme to the powers that Ghost Widow bestows?
Matt Miller:

Her powers are best described as Soul Mastery. You tend to use the souls of your victims, past and present to create effects and powers to make more victims of your carnage. It’s kind of like the circle of life, only completely opposite.

MMORPG.com:What does Ghost Widow have to offer each character class?
Matt Miller:

Each archetype gets powers that help shore up holes they might feel they have. Brutes and Stalkers get ranged attacks, Corruptors get some control-type powers, and Dominators get some nice Area Effect attacks. All of them except Masterminds get a pet Night Widow as their final power. Masterminds get Area Effect attacks as well as some nice control-abilities.

Four Exclusive Screens of the Ghost Widow Patron Power: "Soulstorm"
MMORPG.com:At GDC we saw a unique spell effect from the Ghost Widow line. Can you explain what types of spell effects people should expect if they follow her?
Matt Miller:

Using the souls of your enemies, as well as drawing power from the Netherworld itself with darkness-based attacks, are the order of the day with Ghost Widow’s power effects.

MMORPG.com:Why should players choose Ghost Widow as their patron?
Matt Miller:

If your character has any connection to the Netherworld, or other spirit realms, they will feel right at home with Ghost Widow’s powers. Other players will like the control-style elements of the sets, and the Soul Storm power just looks too cool to pass up.
