Age of Conan Level 1-20 Review - Page Four

Discussing the Scores

 advertisement

While I give Age of Conan perfect scores in Graphics and Sound (they are the best I’ve seen out there), the game’s score loses ground in the Customer Service and lag categories. I explained my issues with Customer service above, and I am taking lag to account for both latency and frames per second, both of which I had pretty severe issues with.

Some of you may be surprised to find that Role-Playing garnered a score of seven, but from my time on Hyperboria, a US RP server, even the gankers took the time to RP, giving my friend and I the opportunity to “join them” before their 23rd level assassin came out of hiding and slit our throats.

Value is also a category that I felt needed at least a paragraph to explain: I think that the different approach that this game takes to the contemporary MMORPG makes it worth the box price to try (keeping in mind that you get your first 30 days free). I ranked it a seven because I know that some of the decisions that the developers made will not sit well with some players.

If you’re expecting a sandbox-style game, I would not recommend you spend the money. If you don’t like to pay attention to quests and story, this game might not be for you (at least in levels 1-20). If you don’t like a more linear guided experience, 1-20 may not be for you. For everyone else, I would suggest trying it out.

Overall Assessment of Age of Conan Levels 1-20

Pros Cons
  • Innovations on genre mechanics
  • Awesome graphics
  • Great animations
  • Fantastic sound
  • Engaging combat
  • Solid story
  • Customer Service
  • Zone instancing (for some)
  • No Follow Tool
  • High System Requirements
