There is nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home. |
I have the original game on my funcom account. How far will that get me as far as F2P content goes? Will I have the same stuff as if it was still p2p? or will have to buy stuff to get things that I would have normally gotten with my original game. (obviously not the xpack content) |

Not far. If you read the rules... you can own all the way up and if you're not a premium sub you won't have access (unlike LOTRO).

I'm not TRYING to dissuade you. I bought the new RotG box thinking that it'd unlock all the stuff for me for F2P.. it doesn't. So I personally got bit by it. With LOTRO (which for the record I favor) you buy it, it's yours. So you buy MoM, Mirkwood, and RoI and that's it. Just like Guild Wars. Having said that LOTRO still has LOTRO issues with some of the wierd animations and whatnot. If I had to point at a was F2P should be I would point at LOTRO. AoC really is nice and pretty though. And I do enjoy the realm PvP which you DON'T see in LOTRO. |

i even have the RoTGS expansion (paid for it when i was subbed) and can't even use it as a F2P. you have to be subbed to use any of the expansion content. i was not impressed. for free you basically get to level to 80 in the old world. you get the T1/T2/T3 raids and you can do mini games. you cannot siege. you get to choose only from 3 classes. you have a 2 gold limit and very limited bag space.
the kicker is that when it comes to mini games (or pvp in general) you cannot buy any pvp gear beyond level 4 because of your 2 gold limit. needless to say you will get steam rolled by people wearing pvp level 10 gear all day long. if you want to be competitive you will need to sub. keep in mind that on top of gear anyone that is subbed and has the expansion has AA feats which give some pretty nice damage/protection buffs.
you also cannot buy any decent purple armor/weappons on the acution house with the 2 gold limit. even most of the good gems, or potions, or acessories, even horses are more then 2 gold. so unless you have a budy willing to gear you for free you will be stuck with incredibly crappy gear unless you sub.
basiclaly, if you want to level to 80 and try a few of the old raids the trial is for you. for anything else or if you want to be competitive you will have to sub or buy from the cash shop. |

The freemium model is really good for the casual PVE player who wants to spend some time in Hyboria at his/her own speed. (like me) However once you get really into the game you will probably need a sub to experience the full feeling of the game. For competitive gamers i beleive a sub is a must. Originally posted by Aceundor I agree. You can pve or pvp below 80 reasonablely enough as a F2p. To be competitive in pvp or pve at 80, you really want a sub. |

Originally posted by Jakdstripper Yup thats pretty much how it is, totally free until 80 and initial raids, then start paying for the game if you want later content. Bargain. rpg/mmorg history: Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW (9200 hrs on main [mage])> oblivion > LOTR (480 Hunter) > Rift (130 hours mage) > Guild Wars (900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. Now playing Eve/Skyrim/GW1. Waiting for GW2/Archeage. |
