I am a player from Europe, but when I run my EU version of AoC I get some little lag here and there, where when I play on a US server I don't get lag at all.

At first I thought it might have to do with peakhours, but after some weeks, been playing/returned since Unchained I noticed that regardless peakhours US or EU , it's still only EU that lags.

Also this is not a complain about lag, but just curious if anyone else has this cause I simply find it somewhat strange to not lag at US servers while I am from Europe yet lag on EU servers. Also both the servers I am one are set on medium pop.

First off: Ignore the medium pop mark, as its normal for all servers, not matter what real pop.

My guess on your situation: The US server is either on a better hardware, or its lower pop then the EU server. Of course there could be other solutions also. I have often had lag correct itself if I just play for some time (loadings?) or just wait a few days.

I had the same issue in EQ2, the EU servers was unplayable while the US servers are fine.

It can be hardware or something else, sometimes those data packages go strange ways. Besides, AoCs EU servers are in Norway, if the US servers are in say New york it can actually lead to faster connetions if you live in England that have a cably directly to New york..

Try to ping both servers IPs manually and see what you get.

Was on most of Saturday and towards mid evening there was noticible lag and at one point the  EU server flipped out but was back in secs's,i put it down to increase in population as more F2P's start to populate various zones and strain the servers and also the weekend is usually a busy period anyway. But up until then i've not really noticed any consistant lag pretty much rock solid performance server wise.

Some times it depends on how you're connection gets routed to the server.  You might be getting bottlenecked at a routing station inbetween.

I kinda have a feeling something in last weeks patch has messed something up on my end. Am unable to launch the DX10.exe, while the patcher does start everytime I START the game and ACCEPT the EULA the patcher is brought back and starts all over with "scanning local files 1/4> updating..........blablabla and again after accepting the EULA it starts again.

But my normal AoC.exe which is DX9 works fine, except that now I get lag on EU servers.

Already posted it on the tech forums, already checked if my DX11 is working properly and it does, tested with several games that are DX10 or DX11 with no problem at all. Did a repair all files, rebooted, re-installed...etc..etc nothing seems to get DX0 running for AoC.

But do have a feeling that DX9 vs DX10 is causing this little lag issue I am having.

I play on all 3 european servers(CROM., FURY and RAGE). I get almost same ping from all (115 ms-average) BUT on CROM (most populated server-could have 4 times the size of the other 2 together) i get enormous lag spikes every 3-5 minutes and gameplay tends to be a bit choppy even at 115 ms!!!

RAGE and FURY run quite smoothly. So it MUST be the population numbers. So it's Funcoms fault...again!

this game has always been more popular in the Eu than in N America, seeing this thread did not surprise me. I would wager that 2/3rds of more of the players are European. This is NOT meant as a slam  just a observation, my old DAOCguild  was 90% European and was the best guild I was ever in.

I miss DAoC

I don't live far from where the US servers are, so my normally latency was about 25 ms, but I constantly got 4800ms spikes...

Eh? So your saying you expect the new "mini" area to be the same size as the whole of the rest of the game? AoC sits at around 27GB on my PC just now.

No but the game needs some free space on the hard disk as well. I wasnt talking about 50GB all taken by the instalation

Why would the game require extra disc space?

I just finished downloading AoC this morning. At my first ever login, I was immediately hit with 4k ms spikes every 10 secs or so.

It's been like that all day. Yeah that's on the EU servers. I didn't know we could play on US servers, I'll give that a go.

The game looks pretty cool but is totally unplayable with this latency.

Its got nothing to do with load or hardware, most servers are run to be cost effective.    Its got to do more with server resources or $$ being spent by Funcom.     Why WoW runs so smooth?   Blizzard is spending money on resources, connections and power.    I cant remember exactly but I heard Blizzard is spending 175k a day running WoW servers.

Anyway since I got my DX10 version running again the lag for me atleast is gone, again not sure how DX9 or DX10 connect to lag but for some reason I don't get it or just tiny little hickups in DX10 so for me it's solved.

To play on the US server with your already installed EU version you need to goto your Localconfig. file in AoC main folder, open it and change all US text into EU text, make a copy first of your original localconfig. That way I can switch to EU or US by exchanging the localconfig. Keep in mind you also need to register a account on both the EU and the US cause you can not log into the US server using your EU account.

I also think this is a common issue when people seem unable to log into the game when they might have downloaded the wrong version (either EU or US) and trying to login to the US server with a EU account or log into a EU server with a US account.

I am running the game on maxed settings with every slider to 100% at 1920/1080res. amd QC.3.2ghz with 6gb.ram(win7)

Perhaps blizzard does spend much money on their servers, but overall the gamequality/rendering/limited visuals is what makes WoW run so smooth. Overall WoW doesn't run smoother for me then AoC does, only difference is I can max out settings of WoW on my laptop and need to lower my settings of AoC when playing on my laptop, on my pc I run AoC maxed.

Simple fact due to how the game looks at max settings it is obviously that the game is more meant for the gamer, meaning one who upgraded and keeps his system uptodate for gaming where WoW can be played on about any system that is able to run windows XP with low-end graphics cards and WoW still looks good yet different compared to AoC.

AOC definatly is high end, and WoW you can play on a turd computer.   People keep talking about the coding, its almost never about coding.    More USA players means those servers are more than likely getting more resources, less players they turn down the servers to save money.

Then again it could be hopps, me if I play on a East Coast server Im averaging 4 hopps.    Which means Im getting a 90-120 ping.   West Coast Im getting 60-90 ping.    That dosnt sound like much but in PVP it means alot.    This guy might be getting a straight shot on a cable to the USA, maybe 2-3 hopps.   While in Europe he might have to make extra hopps 4-5.
