I am enjoying it mostly, but of course, getting griefed is never fun.  I managed to join a clan and it has been enjoyable grouping with them when people are around and helping to fend off all the other people who seem to KOS everyone. (Kill on sight)

I myself don't constantly attack anyone I see, as I feel attempting to make friends might be a better idea than making a lot of enemies.  This though I must say, tends to end up with them getting the first attacks in and myself being killed, but it is interesting when a  guild is there with 5 guys, you can get everyone who isn't with them in your group to help kill them.  (even if some of these people were previously griefing you).

I am currently 23 bear shaman myself and find it difficult to level at times due to the people killing me while questing, but also enjoy this aspect too.  I find myself wanting revenge and seeking them out to fight again...and again...and again...then 5 different groups are all fighting each other, chaotic, but a lot of fun.

Generally you need to run in a group to be safe while questing, but solo is definetly a possibility, especially with hide.  Though if you are in one of the bigger guilds, especially ones that are known griefers (griefing any and everyone regardless of level or affiliation) you might be killed just because you are in said guild.

While the game can be frustrating at times (being in tortage instances as a level 11 and being constantly ganked by lvl 22s in the zone), it is still a lot of fun for me.

Just turn off general chat and you can get rid of a lot of the chat garbage that goes on.

The server isn't bad.

Turning off Global chat is an absolute must though. It is overrun with players shouting out racist slurs, lude comments and insults at an alarming rate. Other than that, I have no real beef with it at all.

I love pvp but this is the reason why i dont partake in games that people consider "hardcore" ....ass holes and douch bags flock like flies on shit

Favourite MMOs: Vanguard, EVE Online and Fallen Earth
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.

F2P has definitely attracted many undesireables.

As an example: A player named Crazy has been flaming everyone in Global since the first hour that Deathwish went live. He even has a sidekick that joins in on it at times, so that they can gang up on someone, verbally, with the sole purpose of making that persons playtime as frustrating as possible.

Lots of others like him as well, though he is by far the most out of control one that I have witnessed. Complete disregard for others and without a sub fee to prevent him from accessing the game he can continue his negative behavior for as long as he likes.

If he gets banned or suspended he can just create a new F2P account.

? I haven't been paying attention a lot, but I thought that it said somewhere that F2P players can't use the Global channels.

I was pretty sure I had read that too, but so far (as a F2P player) I have had no issues using Global.

It is possible that if you purchased the game previously, had a sub at one time, but now play as F2P you have access to the channels. That is the only explanation I can come up with for that question.

FC hasn't been very clear about things, as usual.

I was a little confused on this as well.   On the "official" forums there was a post about not being able to talk in those channels as a F2P.   When you go into subscribed channels there is even a channel in there that would seem to be for f2p players.   Its off by default..

However, the stream of crap that flies by in global would seem to indicate f2p's are talking there just fine.   It only took a few minutes to not want to bother with ignore and simply shut them off completely.

Hardcore pvp is one thing and I don't really consider AoC hardcore pvp.   I mean Ultima Online was FFA pvp.. you died most everything got looted (before bless deeds etc).   That said.. there should still be rules of conduct but it doesn't do anygood to ban someone when they can just make another free account.

This is why I don't like free trials and its a good reason to push F2P out of the MMO market... or have some restrictions on how you get to register.    Tho if you watch that chat.. you certainly do want to kill people.. I'll give it that.

I still think that US PvP servers and EU PvP servers are a difference of night and day when it comes to server community, far less toxic and less rotten apples. I can't recall racism, homophobia or other gutterspeech being the dominant main flavor of the chat channels even on the PvP servers on the EU side, as they apparently do seem to be the thing on the US PvP servers.

But I could be wrong, I'll try to pay more attention on the global channels the next few times I log in, to see if my impression of it still stands.

I can see how this would be. I have almost rolled EU myself on different games for this reason among others.  I find people of a different nationality of me interesting, its fun to hear them talk, and I speak a little french/spanish and it is very fun/nice to be able to communicate with people of a different language, in their language, helping you to learn it.

I have heard of many non-english speaking MMO players say that they have learned mostly all their english from playing online games.

My question, is it very divided though when playing EU?  Do you have a lot of different languages going on?  More "region specific guilds" who might dislike another region specific guild?  So possibly like....France versus germany or something?

I turned off global chat within a minute, after the the first few lines were racist trolling. Just ignore it. As for PVP, all I did was get to tortage so far. The classes you can choose for free are meh, and the game is still the same as it always was. No real purpose to PVP, so I just cant excited about playing.

I love the server! even though im not the biggest pvp player, I think this brings out the best of the aoc universe.

I keep getting ganked, but for some reason Im still having the time of my life lol:)

I think it makes the game so much more exciting when you have to watch your back and sneak around the gank groups^^

And of course helping fellow guildmates when you see them having trouble with some a hole xP

but I do agree, the global chat is a problem...

I checked several times, there was definitely no smacktalk - at all - in the Global channel on the EU side. Maybe there is but only not on the times I checked, I think that it's however minimal.

I did notice more non-english talk than usual in the Global channel between the english, on the Aquilonia RP PvP server there was only english in the Global channels. I didn't notice any nation-bound rivalries, but that doesn't mean that it isn't there, there's always some kinda rivalries between certain guilds going on, but the server is still young, so I didn't notice any of that, certainly not a divide along nation lines. But who knows, that's always possible in future of course.

I am not currently in a guild so I use global chat  all the time. It's not that bad at all on Set, actually it is very helpful. I have never asked a question in global chat that wasn't answered by a tell within 60 seconds. All the talk about the horrible community is overblown imo. As long as the topic doesn't stray into politics, religion, or sex everything is pretty cool.

I also rolled a toon on Deathwish and use global there as well. You pretty much need to at least check in to know what is going on for grouping and such.

The new AOC Server is a worthless pile of shit...

I'm sure some will come and claim otherwise... They are wrong.

Several of us tried to give it a chance, but watching groups of 5+ people camp respawns in quest zones, people 20+ levels higher riding around ganking noobs.

Uncontrolled killing everywhere with no penalty is just dumb.  Fortunately it's free!

So people will join, see how much it blows, and quit.

The new server is awesome! Ganking is a fact of this game. If you are getting repeatedly killed, go quest in another location until it calms down, get your skills up and then you can compete!

Its not a game for the weak hearted or sensitive, its a brutal PvP world, thats all there is to it. It can get painful, and I have logged off before because of the ass-hats, but its part of the challenge.

Server is a great idea - Glad to be  back!

there's still no real death penalty is there?? No looting, or lost gear???

So why cry about getting killed?? What are you really losing, other than needing to respawn and rebuff?

You will normally drop an item or 2 from your inventory, potions, etc... And your PvP stats will take a hit. Thats it, so all in all, lots of fun and no real deterrent from PvPing :)

I'm finding a major lack of players.  I Attack on sight anyone within 3 levels no questions asked, but the amount of running away if you have any advantage, especially in water is not only a lack of fun but I find more wimps on this server than I can take.  Big deal you lose something you just got 10 minutes ago.  This servers population is quite low to be honest, maybe they have all out level me(mid 20's) but its rather disappointing when you get someone low and only one KD and no snare to boot.
