OP  11/12/08 9:18:49 PM#1

I was wondering if my new laptop would be able to run AoC at a good fps, I don't really care how the graphics look. The specs  are: Intel core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM DDR 3, and Nvidia 9400m with 256mb DDR3 shared with main memory (but that is the minimum it can use). If i can run AoC should I upgrade to 4GB for more performance? Thanks in advance!

p.s. yes it is the new MacBook, I will be using windows xp 32 bit

how will it run?

low
low/medium
medium
medium/high
high
not at all

Didnt research the 9400m but if it is on par with a 9800GT then your system is better then my Desktop and should be fine.

I run:

P4 3.4 Ghz (Single Core)

1 Gig DDR1 Ram

Windows XP 32

9800GT

Low settings for when PVP happens but can actually run on Medium to high with few hiccups.

Low settings graphics are not bad at all.

CPU should be fine,

Ram should be fine,

But dont know about the grafic card, it should atlest work on low/medium i think.

Yes buying more Ram is always a good thing

ok, thanks for the response guys. I've looked around at different forums and it seems like no has used the 9400m to play AoC yet so I guess I'll be the first to test it.

I would say you might be able to play it, but depending on the screen resolution, it is going to be severely crippled.

The 9400M GS is a 256MB Card, but it only has a 64-bit interface and that is what will hurt you.

(I recently had a friend try WoW on the same card and he got 15-20fps on lowest settings on a very similar laptop).

Good luck with it though.  I hope it works out!

To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!

The only time you run out of chances is when you stop taking them.

I think that the 9400m is just a repackaged 8400M and wont be faster than the 8600M looking at the specs.

Notebook check expects the card to perform around that of a x1400.

9400m is ranked number 80 on that list from link above

the 9400m shouldn't really be ranked 80. Have another laptop with similar specs and the mobility x1600 and on most newer games the 9400m gets way better performance than the x1600 by about 23 fps on average. Based on that I would have to disagree with that chart.

Uhm, you do realise that 9800 is the top of the line when we are talking about the 9000 series when the 9400 is the bottom? A 8800 is faster.

To the OP: Get 2 more gigs of RAM and youll run fine on medium, now you are on low with custom medium settings on some things.

Kill or be killed, mercy is for the weak.

You definetly need a better graphics card as everyone has been saying, other than that your system will handle it. With the card now, you'll be able to get low settings, maybe medium/low

 try this, it should help:

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

and it also depends on what windows do you have, vista is a memory drain for example, 2GB is barely enough...

 Vista 64 bit

2.2 ghz Dual core Intel Prov

3 gigs ddr2 ram

hd radeon 3200 graphics ( integrated )

I run the game with shadows off and ground textures set to middle, all other settings are on medium ( turn off water reflections )

On average Im getting 23-30 fps in the game, almost 40 inside a dungeon. Pvp slows my rig down cuz of effects, and going over a ledge and getting a big boost in the draw distance also hurts it a little, so a few hiccups, but if my POS ATI integrated card can handle this game, im sure you can 2.

Most people on these forums believe in over kill, which for an mmo unless your sieging ( bugged anyways ) or are a hard core raider, a pretty inexpensive system can run this game quite well. I dont need 8x AA or 16x AA full shadows and direct x ten to enjoy a game, solid frames and decent graphics + fun gameplay is all it takes.

Personally i believe that even at medium to low settings AOC will still blow away your concept of graphics in an mmo, but trying to take an mmo and make it have xbox 360 graphics is just rediculous atm, and you will see people throwing money left and right to try and attempt this ( Nvidia cards can cost hundreds of dollars, quad core procs as well, ddr3? ) unless your profession requires such technology, most of the time a much simpler and less expensive machine can handle the same game.

So while ya all try and tell him he needs a better graphics card or hell be stuck on low settings, just remember that your system probly cost 2-3 times what mine did, yet were getting the same exact game experience.
