Don't think so, you aren't very fair with AoC.

It's far from Vanguard, really.

I have to disagree with you on this and here is why.  I played Vanguard on a PvE server for over a year.   People claimed it was in bad shape, yet I stayed and played on a PvE server for a year!  I prefer PvP over all other types.   I didn't play Vanguards PvP because it was broke.   Now with that in mind.   Why am I not willing to stick it out in AoC past that first free month in AoC?  Maybe because I know how Vanguard was...and I can compare it to how AoC is now and Vanguard was a way better game at launch than AoC is right now and that is why I stuck with Vanguard as long as I did.   Now if I can deal with the game that was Vanguard for a year and cannot stomache over a month in AoC - I'd say that puts AoC in a very rare catagory for me of being a game that needs tons of TLC and it will be another Vanguard if Funcom doesn't fix it soon.

The people in denial about this game will one day wake and realize that it is anotehr Vanguard in the making.

Sorry.. I think AOC sux.. Im no long playing.. yada yada.. but holy fucking christ this post hurts my brain.

1." Vanguard was a way better game at launch than AoC is right now and that is why I stuck with Vanguard as long as I did."

Huh? you stuck with Vanguard b/c it was a better game than AOC? The time/space relationship is a bit fucked you think?

2."The people in denial about this game will one day wake and realize that it is anotehr Vanguard in the making."

Huh? You mean its like Vanguard in that you will stick with it for 1 year like you did Vanguard?

AWWW WTF are you trying to say here lady!?

Simple.  I took off my rose colored glasses.     Took me a year with Vanguard to do so.  Took me less then a month with AoC!  LOL.   Game is broken, way more then Vangaurd ever was.

You can't be serious about Vanguard being in better shape ? If anything they are just about equal in terms of launches . You obviously have played your fair share of MMO's , yet sit here and claim it is doomed if they don't do this or that in your frame of time? If they ' ve had over 500k boxes sold up to this point financially they did just fine for an MMO launch , Is it outlandish to think they will fail to retain atleast 150-200k of those over the next few months ? Which by then the game should be in much better shape than now.

I haven't stuck to a game for over 2 weeks since SWG was destroyed in 05 , yet something about AOC has me logging back in for the first time in a long time. Does this matter to the success or failure of the game ? Not in the slightest, I'm one person 1% of those who have purchased this game. my Experience is trivial compared to those numbers . As is yours or anyone else who posts here .

I really get confused as to what these arguments are really about anyway . Are we arguing over whether AOC is a success ? In what terms are we talking about measures success ? Beating WOW , Is that  what everyone expects of every newly released MMO ? WoW is big due largely to its I.P , Secondly due to it's polish . Which is a direct result of the I.P. and the funding it brings .How can you compare other MMo releases to that ?

Anyway if Vanguard is still running , I doubt you will see AOC shutting down .

The problem is not funcom but players that have not patient.

The game when launched had MANY bugs , something that in my opinion should expected. All MMORPG games has problems in the start others many others few. (i have to admit that AOC had alot_

But now after 1 month+ that game has launched many bugs has been fixed. every month there are 2 updates with many fixes and features.

The game will become better and better  with time.

This has yet to be seen.   Funcom breaks more things then it fixes and the game is currently bleeding players.    If Funcom doesn't get on the ball this game will be another Vanguard.

Funcom addressed this issue as well. Now that they feel they've fixed a majority of the game breaking issues, they are moving to patching once a week, as opposed to twice, to allow more time on their internal test server before a patch is pushed out, which should result in less unforseen problems. I see al these complaints, yet all I see is good things coming from Funcom. I think the only reason I am not as pissed as everyone else, is that I didn't come into this with high expectations. I know how MMO launches go, I know that most MMOs aren't done until later, including everyone's great MMO king WoW. WoW was incomplete and buggy at launch, Vanguard was (is) incomplete at launch and buggy, EQ, EQ2, etc.

me and 250k of my friends can''t be wrong BRING BACK PRE-CU SWG AND FIX MMOS

this is how you save CONan

1)get raph koster on board

2)redo the game from the ground up

3)ditch the level system and put a sandbox system in like pre-cu swg

4)have just one zone no instances of any kind

5)put in more pvp play styles to give the players more of a feel of danger

6)turn pve servers into pvp servers

7)have funCON offer refunds to players who have paided for both a copy of the game and their first month

with those 7 things funCON would have a hit on their hands.

pwnt

Apologize to everyone and close the game. Then spend another year fixing, developing and implementing the lists mentioned by the first 2 posts. Re-open the game and profit.

AoC doesn't need "saving"... not everyone likes it, while enough to keep it going do. Pointless topic.

I think that it has a decent ammount of immersive value, but it needs variety. I think once they fix the crafting, add the pvp system, and add a few extra things for fun...such as things like drunken brawling it will be tons better.

I can give you a plan guaranteed to work.

  3 steps

1:  Reduce monthly payment to 5 dollars a month until steps 2 and 3 are done.  Add to this a formal apology and free month for all subscribers who stayed with them during Christmas time this year.

2:  &**$%*% add the stuff they swore would already be IN the game, and make it ((#$%#*#* work.  Jack up support 100% (after the holidays)

3:  Start a "Christmas Referral" program.  First, the game goes down to 20-30USD from october till january.  Next:  Each subscriber gets 3 referral codes which negate this fee for online download and players get a free trial month.   Each player that stays reduces the referrers' monthly fee by $5 for one month.

This plan WOULD cost them some money...yes it would hurt their monthly income for a bit.  The ideal is that the initial box sales would recover some of it (since the fee monthly was only $5 for a bit, it would encourage more players to both try it and stick with it until they fix things).  While they try and ride that and buy time, they can fix many of the major issues.  Ideally, the fix would be set in before october, and thus open them to a PERFECT "re-launch" (without ever having actually said they need to) during the holidays.  The immediate box sales would cover the free month their vets would get at december, and they would likely up their retention rate from the below norm they have now to around 50%, which is very respectable.

Immediately following the holiday season, there should be a new years addition to the game in terms of content.  Something rather large...but not massively time consuming to make.  Just some flavor in a big package to really draw media attention back onto them.  Having completely abolished their bad press through a fully successful holiday, this attention would begin forcing a growth period to the game.

From there we enter into Xbox launch time....no content is even needed as an addition to see good growth here.  Instead, they can focus their attention on something MORE important.  Widening their machine availability.  This is ground no one has really tread, generally a graphic heavy game will still require high machines.  If they toyed around long enough...its possible they could create a new way to process and texture things to allow lower end machines to join in.

Doing THIS would secure them a place as a WoW killer....and revolutionize the industry.

Funcom builds a time machine, and changes their release date.
