Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included.

I am always amazed over how so many "gloss" over the whole sentence, and pick the one part they wish to use.

Oh you dont say mr Openedge1 ;)

(double irony ftw)

QFT!

GW is hardcore but CAN be played casually /LMAO. This "rule" (chuckles) can be applied to just about any game, let alone MMO.

GW is the king of casual. That doesn't mean its bad but puhlease.

B

Yes, we can apply this to any game

Because AoC is for Hardcore/Casual (oh wait Hardcore have already left)

Because LOTRO is for Hardcore/Casual (oh wait Hardcore already left)

Because Tabula Rasa is for Hardcore/Casual (oh wait Hardcore already left)

Because Hellgate is for...oh wait...everyone left

And now the casuals are even leaving AoC

And WoW, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, etc. continue to dominate with both sides of the tracks...

Why? They are just better games and cater to both crowds.

Errrr, WoW might continue to dominate and that has nothing to do with quality. Britney Spears sold a lot of records FYI. Its really hilarious how you try to lump L2 and GW in with WoW. Sorry to rain on your parade but GW and L2 are not in the same class. L2 has around 700K subs. That's pretty good, but not in WoW's class. GW doesn't have subs because it isn't an MMO and you aren't a "hardcore" gamer just FYI.

How do you know who left? Did someone poll everyone and ask if they were "hardcore" gamers. I play over 100 hours a week and have done since UO. I have been playing Lotro for over a year now. I am in a kin of over 250 people who raid 4 x a week and are very active in PvP. I wouldn't describe  us as "hardcore" because that definition is just e-p**n waving. We are dedicated to the game and continue to derive a great deal of enjoyment from it over a year after its inception.

100 hours a week? Shammalammadingdong! thats crazy!

Yah, I play far too much. Even when Im working I usually have the game open. Luckily I work from home :)

S

Im secretly just jealous, before I got married and had kids, I was hardcore. Now Im just too tired to roll like I used to.

As of today AoC lost almost 3000 more hours from last week. People must really be taking some extra long vacations.

The number of players has also dipped. It has been 6k+ and today it shows 5k+. I still continue to see a trend here.

Honestly GW is one of the only games with a decent skill system and technical pvp. Its one of the only online rpg where pvp might be considered e sport sicne what matters isnt your set that took 10k hours to farm, but the way your team works. So yeah GW might be considered as a hardcore online game unlieke wow where the pvp is just another place to show how hard you grind.

3000 hours less but only 1k players, so even assuming the drop was solely due to them  that would only be 3 hours each on average.  In any case though, even pessimistically assuming that there were only 250k subscribers, that would only be 0.4%. Shame it isn't possible to estimate real numbers isn't it?

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

Wait till after 7/27. For those who preordered we paid $5 for the download and a week of play. My next billing date is 7/27 so I bet the numbers go down again on the 28th. Good thing I wont be seeing Funcom on my next cc bill.

Id have to say shadowbane is on that level of technical skills.  In some cases a smart level 50 can kill a 75. Heck Ive even seen smart pvp'rs solo a group of people.

This is no different than WoW really.  Yeah WoW makes you spend some time getting your gear but if once you get it the first time it is very easy to maintain top end gear.  WoW arena PvP takes every bit as much skill as GW PvP.  Throw in the fact that a poorly geared player can skillfully kill a better geared player and well this holds basically no water at all. WoW PvP takes way more skill than AOC PvP because it has a lot more counter abilities and you can't 1 hit kill people.  WoW and GW are pretty much equal.

Anyway xfire numbers are still dropping 10% per week so the game is still losing players.  Maybe the buddy keys will finally level it off.

looks like it is consistently below 20K hours now. 19683 on the 23rd for a 2500 hour loss from the 23rd. Wonder how long it will be before it will be below 10K? Only about a 9% drop from last week though. Guess only the hard core fanbois left playing now, or more fanbois making Xfire accounts because of this thread. take your pick.

How many surveys actually hit the bulk of a population?  It's always a percentage of a given population that gives statistics for the whole, a representation.  Even though I don't use xfire, it's populous that exists for AoC does show a trend.  How accurate that trend is really a guess without real data from Funcom, which we'll never get.

I was just as excited about this game before release, preordering, playing beta, and finally joining in once it went live.  I want it to be a great game.  Unfortunately, it should have been a great game before they released it.  Every patch since seems like an effort by Funcom to remove fun from the game.

Until this game matures, I won't be around to be disappointed any further.  Others will learn why on their own time I'm sure.

I think AoC is doing somewhat better then the xfire numbers show.... The reason I say that is the xfire numbers show the average player doing 4-5 hours per night.  That is a pretty long time.  I'd think that these types of players would run into the end game brokenness faster then casual players.  So I think that the casual players probably aren't getting to the bad stuff fast and might take a few months to actually get dissastisfied and leave.  Of course by then maybe enough will be fixed that they will not actually leave...

Just a thought
