Do I have a reason to finally take my dusted Vista cd from the closet, so I can take advantage of DX10?

I'm not looking for miniscule graphical differences... that is honestly the least I care about.  But I am definitely interested in perfomance. If the perfomance is increased over XP I will install it back on my HDD.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks in Advance!

I have great performance through Vista with High Settings. Unfortunately, DX10 hasn't been enabled yet, so if you were to upgrade for that reason alone, I would wait.

Has anyone heard when they are planning on activating DX10? I thought that was one of their big selling points...

The game already looks incredible just on DX9. I can't wait until they let us use DX10.

If dx10 isnt enabled then how am I running the game in dx10 according to my video settings. I don't understant why people assume DX10 isn't enabled. Just because you can't do dx10.1 because they don't support sm 4.0 yet, there is DX 10.0 withtout sm 4.0.

Not saying I might not be wrong but I do have it set to dx10 and sm 3.0 in my video options, I would think if that wasn't working it would revert to dx9.

Performance decreases with vista, and also with dx10, differences between dx9 and dx10 are minimum, microsoft only wanted to trick some people into buying vista.

Maybe in one year from now it's worth to buy...

Go windows xp, dont feed even more microsoft, cause they dont give a damn about windows users.

Yeah I fell for the Vista Dx10 trap because I didn't research it enough. Now I am only getting to use 2.7 gb of the 4gb of ram my system has unless I pay a chunk of cash and upgrade to Vista 64-bit. Not saying I don't like the look  and interface of Vista because I actually like it better than XP but it is a system hog.

DirectX 10 has some HUGE potential and should make the game look even better than it does now.

I don't know where you guys got your information, but DX10 should look a LOT better than DX9 once they get it in game. Check out this video:

Or this one:

The difference looks pretty huge to me...

How am I not playing in DX10.0 when I have it enabled and am playing the game? I understand DX10.1 not being supported becuase it requires sm 4.0 which is not available in the shader options.

In reply to Mahje: I don't honestly know if I was running XP 32=bit or 64-bit. I only had 2 gigs of ram on my other rig. I very well might have been running 32-bit, which correct me if I'm wrong won't recognize 4gb of ram either.

Horsepoop.  That video wasn't a review, it was a paid advertisement.  I've been 3d gaming since Orchid cards came out.  I've been hearing the same bull from Directx fanboys since 1995.  You don't upgrade before the stuff has been released for close to a year.  Only people who are willing to pay for the experience of beta testing should upgrade ahead of time.   Period.

Well, I think DX10 is partly enabled.

I am running with the following:

Vista 64-bit Home Premium

Intel C2D e8400 @3.6GHz on Abit IP35P

4 x  2GB RAM (8GB) DDR2 Ocz Repear HPC CL4

Club 3D 9800 Gx2 1MB

I am running this on DX10. 1680x1050 every setting is maxed and bloom is on. I get 35-80 FPS, probably higher at some point, but really haven't checked it all the time.

I get the DX10 lighting effects from tree canopies etc. And someone said that DX10 works in AoC apart from Shader 4.0.

Exactly how I am running it, and what I have been trying to get across in this thread. Dx10.0 yes, Dx10.1 with sm 4.0 no.
