Actually the are honoring the pre-order benefits. This is what you and all the other people don't understand. The pre-order is being honored - it was a few items/mount and to reserve a copy of the game. The early access was something completely independent of the pre-order and required another step to go online and purchase it.

No the early access is not independent. Retailers, the game publisher (and even Funcom said so).

Read this thread: AoC publisher confirms early access for all preorders

dude give it up, it states clearly on the box that every pre-order had a key that gave a chance to get in to early access, it did not state anywhere that they were garraunteed a place in EA.  It even says right on the box for the preorder from best buy while supplies last.  enough whining, you didnt get in.  read the fine print next time and get in early like everyone else.  This constant whining by 5 year olds has destroyed the AOC main forums the last few days.

just give it up, you didnt get in, if you are really angry about it return your preorder or dont buy the game, boom, problem solved.  Chances are if people knew who your ingame character was after reading this they wouldnt want to play with you anyways.

QQ ladies.

No, THIS IS AGAIN COMPLETELY WRONG.

Read the thread, people have even posted screenshots.

On the box it says you get early access and can download on the 14th. Nothing more. There is however a card inside of the box that says "restrictions may apply" and sends people to "register.ageofconan.com", and there is nothing about any limit there.

Furthermore, opening this box voids the refund. So many people did not open it before the 14th (As the box said) and this was too late. (yes you see, because of what was printed on the box many haven't opened it before the 14th as there was no need to do so).

Other people have also posted screenshots of other cards that don't say anything.

Other people don't have a card, they have ordered online and received the key by email. The retailers have told them they DO HAVE early access, and even the game PUBLISHER has conirmed this, etc.. etc.. etc...

While it is true some people were told it was limited, it was not the case for so many others.

PLEASE STOP POSTING WRONG AND MISLEADING INFORMATION

alrighty friend, what im about to post is 100% true, none of it will be up for interpretation, its 100% fact

You did not get in to Early Access

Regardless of what you think, complaining will not get you in to Early Access

Whether or not you think Funcom engaged in false advertisment is irrelevant, they will not be punished in any way unless you refuse to buy the game

Even if you convinced every member of this forum funcom did wrong you still would not get in to early access

complaining about not getting in will do you no good, you are just wasting your time and embarrasing yourself

The information regarding the limited availability of early access was readily available from the start via funcoms website and forums

It is not the fault of funcom you ordered from a website or retailer that did not disclose all of the restrictions.

And I will say once more

Regardless of how much you complain, whine, cry, convince people you are write and Funcom is wrong - it DOES NOT MATTER, IT WILL NOT GET YOU IN.  Your complaining will not make the game fail.  Funcom will still market the product.  If you dont like it, dont buy the game.  Also, it is not the fault of funcom that walmart or best buy will not return your opened preorder box, so dont put that on them either.

just accept these facts and stop wasting your time, its doing you no good, it will continue to do you no good and i assure you it will not convince funcom to reopen early access

This was 1 LINE in the middle of 1 huge post in some thead on the forums by 1  "forum MODERATOR".

Funcom has send out a newsletter making people preorder. They have also issued a press release.

The GAME PUBLISHER Eidos has said all of the keys HAVE EARLY ACCESS, "there are more than enough keys, they all have early access ,dont worry you will get the key on time.", this was just 2 days ago

Many retailers didn't know about this, even Amazon UK, were scammed together with the customers.

AGAIN READ THE THREAD before blabering : AoC publisher confirms early access for all preorders

It was an independent step. In other words, you have to pay additional dollars/euros for the early access. Even the press release says that. It means it was AN INDEPENDENT TRANSACTION. You are charged separately for it. So when you signed-up for the charge (that the press release clearly states will happen), it makes it independent of the pre-order. The pre-order gives you the chance to do it. That is all.

Dude. again, READ the thread..

Yes it says you HAVE early access IF YOU PAY 5$.

Still don't understand it ? It doesn't say it is limited, it says you only have to pay 5$ AND YOU GET EARLY ACCESS.

Try these threads that explain it:

Dated May 5th:

http://www.warcry.com/news/view/83643-Age-of-Conan-European-Early-Access-Date

http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&template=content&func_id=2433&table=CONTENT

http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/32319

See? It was mentioned before and explained. And thats dated May 5th after the press release and other information contained in this thread. In other words, thats the last word from Funcom on the issue that I know of.

Edit: The posts from Amazon are dated May 12th, just noticed that. But again that came from the publisher, not Funcom.

See what I mean? Clearly around May 5th it was understood that there was limited access to the early access. I understood it and many others did too.

My god... who wants to pay five bucks for a  three days of early access? seriousely.

All along it was stated by funcom that pre-order keys and early access keys were different and seperate entities.

Funcom goofed up and created a situation where retailers have been lying to consumers in order to make a sale.  This is a BIG deal, and these retailers (having looked into some of the feedback myself since reading this) are more than upset over it.

So it is Funcom's fault that retailers were lying ( your words)?

As someone pointed out, Eidos are the publishers not Funcom. And quite frankly a big 2 fingers to all those who now feel it is beneath them to check the official source for factual info, you reap the benefits of your own lazyness.

Could it have been handled better? Yes. But it wasn't and it's pathetic to be crying like a 5 year old becuase early access is full.   I want it NOW NOW NOW or not at all.....

You are lying through your teeth;

Funcom did not charge for "open beta".

You do not purchase an Early Access "key" --- NO SUCH THING EXISTS

The £/$5 fee connected to Early Access buys you 10 EXTRA DAYS GAME TIME and covers the cost of the download.

Only Funcom know why they limited early access, and they posted the reasons in the announcement.

Of course, when a company enters shady practices they will cover up their asses, they aren't stupid, are they.

So its the fault of the customers and the retailers if they didn't go check out some 1 liners posted by some "moderators" (yes "moderators)  in the middle of some threads on a couple forums ?

After the Funcom newsletter, the Funcom press release, the Publisher confirmation to retailers even 2 days ago, etc... ?

Where is the Funcom email after the newsletter to inform people ?

Where is the Funcom press release that offsets the first one to inform people of the change ?

Even the GAME PUBLISHER didn't know it 2 days ago.

Notice the middle link there? From the Funcom Age of Conan website? There ya go. Thats the official announcement. I just posted the other two to show that it got a fair amount of press.

As far as Eidios comment two days ago, you got me? I have my ideas but I am not going to say because I try not to make accusations or post false information.

As to the e-mail...I never received one about the pre-order in the first place so I wouldn't expect a clarification.

That is an official announcement from their website - thats official. Enough said.

Again, I do think it should have been clearer and there was some miscommuncation but I think for you and other to allege shady practices or a scam is a bit much. And that was 10 days ago before all of this began so there was no way they were covering their asses as you say.

AND HERE IT IS. I knew I read it:

Article from Funcom's website DATED April 4 2008. Link:

http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&table=CONTENT&func_id=2393

3rd paragraph:

"Funcom now also confirms an early access program which will give customers a chance of a head-start in Age of Conan. Funcom reveals that American, European and Oceanic players may enter Age of Conan as early as the 17th of May. Mere weeks away, early adopters can now live, fight and explore in Hyboria, as well as getting an essential head-start before the hordes invade."

Notice the 14th word: CHANCE

There ya go! Same press release you linked actually here:

http://www.funcom.com/wsp/funcom/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&table=CONTENT&func_id=1272

Guess you guys just failed to mention that part huh?

Yes everything is good enough for fanbois.

After Funcom newsletters, Funcom press releases, the PUBLISHER telling retailers otherwise even 2 days ago, it's the customer
