This is going to be a guess of course but im in the market for a new video card and i plan on getting AoC.  What type of specs am i going to need?

I know they havent listed them but those in beta must have some idea. Any help would be, well, helpful. Thanks

After all is said and done, a lot more will be said than done.

It really depends on your budget, how much was you looking to spend?

Nothing to see here... please move along...

For the most part, you can always assume that the newest games will have the highest end requirements.  Of course nothing specific has been posted about AoC's required versus recommended spec, but you probably can't go wrong with any nVidia 8-series card.

They just came out with the 8800 GT and from what I've read online, it's just as fast as the GTX at a fraction (like 1/3) of the price.

Personally I've used both nVidia and ATI in my systems, and have always been happier with the nVidia cards.  But you'll need plenty of power and cooling to go along with any high-end card nowadays.

If its AGP then you could be quite limited, but best to check motherboard make and number then google for specifications.

AGP wise there is :

Radeon HD 2600 XT 256mb AGP > DX10

Geforce 7600 GT 256mb AGP > around $100

or this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102093 X1950GT 256MB AGP just over $100

The one linked above will perform best.

You can compare how good they are with each other below

If you can afford it the 8800GT kicks ass but is just over $200 and only PCI-E atm.

The 9200 was available in AGP and PCI so maybe if you have your PC manuals around take a peak, or this Belarc Advisor is safe and will tell you everything in you PC http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

just have to hunt for the right information, if you can find your motherboard details from that then just do a search for it and see what specs it has.

It would help if you list all your spec's..ram, processor..  It wouldn't be good to suggest a card only to find out your card is way above your system and now you have a bottleneck..

i dont think spending any less than like 150$ will accomplish anything at all, the game will still appear to run poorly. dont worry about dx 10 either, for that $ you shouldnt be running vista. im hoping they are doing this for a reason (like keeping brats with dell's out) but it would be a shame to have another oblivion where people gripe that the game doesnt work because they are trying to run it on bum rigs.

here, research can tell you more than anyone on any forum: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html

Some just run faster, than others, are made with better architecture. As you can see the X1950GT I suggested for AGP runs quite nicely, even though the rest of your system my not be able to give it its full benefit (bottleneck) you will still see vast improvement over your current card and system setup.

try for another gig of ram first and then the video card.

The card with 512mb that are under $100 often run at slower speeds and have less 'tech' on them, so don't just go by the memory amount of the graphics card.

You could pick up the X1950GT and another gig of RAM for around $150 most likely.

EDIT* the main thing to consider is your POWER SUPPLY unit too, if its not powerful enough wattage wise it wont be able to power the video card.

There is a little guide here from a guild mate that might add more insight too: http://www.the-acolytes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4724

If money is an issue..get a used card off of ebay. I believe the nvidia 7800 agp is one of the best (and last) Agp cards you can get. You can usually pick them up off of ebay for 100-120 dollars as many are getting rid of them to go PCI-E.

I can tell you ignorance is bliss. Once you see the difference between slow cheap card and a high end one.. you'll never want to go back so beware. It gets expensive once you know better.. hehe..

Oh and just so you know.. I'd take a Nvidia 7800 with 256memory over say a 7300 with 512 memory. The 7800 will still smoke it even with less video memory. So yes there is a big difference.. You want it for Conan.. you need a card thats actually made for gaming to have any kind of performance in that game.
