After looking at alot of screen shots I wonder why all characters are built like average men. In Robert E Howards works men, specially Conan, were described as being huge hulking beasts with massive frames. So how come they are built like average men in this game?

Maybe the Atrox (from AO) is a bit too much but it would be nice to  be able to create characters built like the characters in the books.

We are recruiting.

See if you cant find a movie on character creation. You can go from a skinny little guy to a big massive hulk. Conan himself was supposed to be more a 'classical strength' large, imposing, muscular, but not body builder size.

I think most the men look about average in sized but very lean and fit and strong. I expect the player characters to be the massive, imposing characters, not so much the NPCs. :)

MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

Besides, is this the body image we all have to strive for? We all know that if the avatarsget  any bigger they be  balding men with back acne from all the steroid use.

After all is said and done, a lot more will be said than done.

Your characters in Age of Conan will all be deeply customizable.

In character creation you will be able to alter the shape of the body and head by scaling and editing the muscle-mass and bone structure, then tweaking the texture of the skin.

Race - Choosing your starting race will of course be the first choice you have to make!

Bone scaling on all parts of the body, including arms, legs and torso etc, allowing you to define the height, weight and proportions of your character.

Over twenty sliders for facial expressions (for example there are five sliders just to customize the nose - length, width, placement, angles and more...)

Skin Colouring of character.

A wide selection of hair and facial hairs.

An age slider so your character can be a determined younger man/woman or a seasoned veteran

Texture Layering for Tattoos, scars, face paint and more. Ability to wear piercing, bands etc...

Playing: Age of Conan, Crysis Wars (mod maps), Fallout 3, NWN2 Storm of Zehir
Watching: Doctor Who S4, Stargate Atlantis S5

Theres over 40 sliders for character creation, so I guess it's safe to assume you CAN build as Hulking monster of a man as you want :)

TO VICTORY OR VALHALLA!

REH's Conan =/= Ahhnold...

Conan in the books was described with a pantherlike grace... yeah he was strong, but nothing like a weightlifter in body type

He was almost a giant in stature, muscles rippling smoothly under his skin...
(Red Nails)
... with the great corded muscles standing out in iron ridges ...
(The Phoenix on the sword)

He moves like a panther despite his size x)

I remember he was described as a giant with a huge frame. That doesn't neccesarily mean bodybuilder type but he was also consistently described as being one of the strongest men alive. And usually if you are strong then you are also big.

But from this thread it seems very possible to create huge, muscular characters so thats great. :)

Yea but 'a giant' and 'strongest man alive' of the 1930's was someone who was 6' tall and weighed 200lb with a barrel chest and solid muscular structure. Compared to today the differences between what we think for that is astounding.

I'd say think 'strongest man' competition type look over 'body builder'. Only shorter. You'd be surprised just how much taller we've gotten as a species in the last 70 years. Hell just in the last 30 years.
