Originally posted by achesoma It's a VERY SMALL niche market, to boot. One that by its very nature is self-destructive, therefore developers will not consider catering to it, because there is absolutely no business angle present. The overwhelming majority of paying customers have no use for this sort of "feature", as they know darn well that they will be the victims of virtual predators and they won't waste their time and money being mugging victims. |

Larger than you think. Plus niche markets are catered to all the time. Take a look at advertisements on TV. Ads cater to more than one audience; it is all subtle advertising. However there is HUGE money to be had in niche markets becasuse usually no one else is catering to them. For example, you may have an ad for a certain product thats aimed towards a person of a cewrtain proffession but could have hidden themes to it that point to the Hip Hop culture. Hip Hop culture may be a niche but marketers can still profit from it. Same goes to the PvP market. I love it how people assume its a "very small population" funny cause if you look at the poll on here almost half of the people want loot FFA PvP. And thats just on here. Heh. |

I remember Everquest had a interesting system of looting. It had No-Drop Items (Items that were Soul-Bound or can't be drop or traded) which made them epic. I think Conan should copy this system. Then Pvp can be probably epic. |

Does not matter much now. They pushed that game back till March 25th or 2008. Looks like more touch ups and other beta testing revealed some flaws or gameplay complexablity. |

If that were true some developer would have already snatched up this larger then we think niche. Don't you think companies blow countless dollars doing that exact kind of research? The ramblings in the middle I won't comment on cause it doesn't really make much sense. I love how people assume polls especially here prove anything. If these polls were even remotely close WoW would be the worst game on the planet instead of the biggest. Now if the developers in there wisdom decide to make one of the ffa servers full loot also well there you go. Probably will only be a hand full of people there then you'll probably come here and bitch that the server population is to low but what ever. Could you imagine like 5 people constantly mugging each other stealing stuff back and forth. |

The whole idea that no one likes hardcore style of play is ridiculous. There are tons of hardcore players out there who enjoy that style of play, even if theres a 30 or 40 percent difference - which is probably hardly the case, looking at polls across boards. The fact that you dont respond to my reasoning just shows you have no knowledge of economics and shouldnt even be trying to argue that niche markets dont make money. Sorry man, this is university material, Im tellin you what I got out of my eco classes. And no, my University aint no crap place either. Its quite respected. And yeah I could imagine that happening. And it would be pretty funny to watch. |

UO was hardcore then stop, ask yourself why. After the split Fellucia was all but empty. The remaining server that was true hardcore SP was all but empty trust me I was there. AC Darktide was 1 server out of how many? Seriously I never play that game so have no idea. EQ had a hardcore pvp server I believe or atleast a pvp server I've heard it was much emptier then the dozens of other servers again never play EQ. Shadowbane tanked. Darkfall supposed to be the new old UO. Will be lucking if it see the light of day. They can't find a publisher last I read. Why would that be if there is such a market for the hardcore full loot pvp rule set. Eve pvp is nothing but gate campers. Only really some what hardcore because you can insure your ship. I've never said no one like hardcore pvp the very fact that you are here rambling on and on and on and on and on....................... Clearly shows that there are some people that like hardcore ffa pvp. I am simply questing your ridiculous assumption that there is such a big market for it. You're clinging to polls here and clearly my WoW example debunks them. History clearly shows that most do not like that play style. Plus the simple fact that no companies are developing this style of game and one would assume that these companies have all kinds of marketing teams that know what they are doing. But ofcourse you are going to a respectable university and know so much more then actual marketing people. Let me give you a simple economic lesson. Supply and demand. If the demand was there like you believe there would be the supply. Not saying there is no demand because again you are not imaginary but a very vocal very small minority isn't enough demand to warrent anyone to supply you with a product. |
