Lol this game hasn't changed at all really, the failure of free trils proved it.

 

I think that if AoC launched to day it would be different. I think players would still quit the game but only not as fast. With less bugs they would maybe stay longer but once they reached the endgame they would quit.

I don't think it is really fair to say that if the game launched today nothing would be different. There is quite a bit of improvement in terms of caching and in the cleaning up of their memory leaks. There doesnt seem to be much in the way of additonal features but there is more content. Alot of the things at launch were non-functional only today we really just have Sieges which are non-functional. Caster/melee imbalance is an issue they should be working on and there are a handful of others too but they aren't. So oh well.

Launch aside, you really have to have a dog in the fight to enjoy AoC. If you aren't a Howard fan, into ultra realism or the whole boob and foul mouth thing, chances are you won't have fun.

Funcom didn't get in enough of the ellements they claimed at developement. The massive sieges only occur if you're in a large guild and then they are lack luster at best, how about formations?

There just isn't enough stuff happening on a daily basis to build a fan following on, gritty and real are fine but a game should still have a draw. Age of Conan isn't much of an adventure game and isn't a sandbox game, it just ends up being a really good looking niche.

I have to agree.....The combat for me seemed cool at first in PVE but I never liked the flow of combat in PVP. In fact it just seemed to be a lot of button mashing with not much strategy (though it looked cool). I feel like good MMO combat should have you reading and anticipating your opponent moves and the combat in this game just never got there for me. Maybe it got better at higher levels, I dunno.

i came back a year later, i thought the game had come a long way. But in my minds  had one major flaw which was the combat system. This was especially apparent in pvp. I played a conq and really hated that i had to pull of 3 chain moves while chasing someone. 


 

Wierd, I thought the combat system was the best part of the game.

 itemization is horrible...

There is little variety in gear ( i played healers so i am referring to light armor choices ).

 

As you go through the leveling process you will end up wearing the same items for 20 levels.

 

If they ever fix this, i will be back and probably for a long time, but they sat on this issue for a very long time.

THIS is what is actually wrong with Age of Conan. At least it is for the major guilds. It's also the reason that many of them have left. Recorded today (21/11/09)

So. If your thing is casual gaming, some fun pvp (gankfests) at lower levels. Come and have a blast. If your thing is massive pvp sieges. Don't waste your money. Funcom have yet to deliver anything close to what they advertised since launch.

They have at best been economical with the truth. At worst, a gang of filthy liars.
