1. AoC has very distinct and interesting classes.

2. AoC has a good number of classes (not too little - LOTRO or too many - WAR)

3. AoC has some of the most unique classes out there: HoX, Bear Shaman.

The problem is balancing but that will be fixed given time.

WAR on the other hand had characters such as Hammerer. What the f*uck is a hammerer? A guy with a hammer? What kind of skills can you come up that can fit this class? Hammer bash? Hammer power attack? Hammer hammering blow? Lame beyond lame. ammerer and Choppa should not have been in game to start with.

Mythic just chewed more than they could swallow, just as every other MMO developer out there with the exception of Turbine.

Classes arn't one of them? lol... seems every other post is about imbalance of classes.

WARs classes are not to many. if you took the time to look you would see theres really only 6 diffrent kind of classes (1.Tanks 2.Melee DPS 3. Ranged DPS 4. Melee Support  5. mid-range support 6. full-range support) but they all play in their own style.

Unique... right.. cause assassin hasnt been done before? or any other form of an assassin... and most of WARs classes are unique to their name.

now the problem is balancing? isnt that kinda contradictory to your first statement that classes arnt the problem? being a PvP focus game i cant see anything being more important than balancing classes.

and as for the hammerer, yes its a terribly uncreative name... but atleast it hasnt been done for the 573rd time. besides... your attempt to troll the hammerer and choppa are, well, sad. just wonder... but how does it feel to perform a 1 trick pony twice?

mythic biting off more than they could chew? how about before trying to attack another developer.. you try and get your own to fix your game.

Mythics cuts are minor to what AoC promised and failed to deliver.

I feel compelled to add that they are also being very open and honest about what they cannot deliver.  That happens to be something ELSE that Funcom is in serious need of evaluating.   I think that Funcom might have seen a much lessened degree of backlash had they simply said:

"Hey guys....look.  We've pushed back as far as our investors feel safe in letting us before seeing at least a little revenue back.  We don't want to have to pull the plug on this thing, so we're gonna lay it out for you.  Some things aren't perfect right now, and I know that it sucks.  Overall, the core gameplay is running fairly well...and the vast majority of you should enjoy the first month of your game time well enough that it won't bother you.  We're gonna do our best to get this patched up quickly, so here are some things to note:"

...and then just told us all what areas needed more work.  Instead, they deliberately placed a gate over the beta (the one free of NDA) so that people couldn't SEE the problem, and then shadily hid from the fans many of the glaring issues.  True, honesty would have earned them some hits from players who just don't want to play a game that has problems.  But having that kind of solid relationship with its community would have earned their trust...and secured many a subscription that they have now lost to the ages.  If nothing else, it would have found them in a kinder light with the players AND the media for doing the right thing.

Now....if only we could get the people around here to act that way as well.  Just as we need to stand up and refuse to waste money on half-arsed attempts and lies, we also need to support honesty and decent behavior.  If we don't do both, we fail in either.

In the case of AoC they didn't release with well balanced classes.

So if you can't have quality maybe you should go for quantity.   So maybe they shouldn't have cut em

For WAR if will depend.  If they actually release with a good amount of balance.  Then it will have been the right decision.

But very few games have released with well balanced classes for PvP.

AoC never cut anything.  Common misconception among those who did not read up on the change.  They MERGED several classes into others.  Waylayer was merged into ranger.  Lich mas merged into necro.  Druid of the storm was merged to Guardian and TOS, and Lotus Master was merged into Assassin.  So, what was actually cut? NOTHING.

This excessive misinformation is what mainly annoys me about the haters.

I'm only paying attention to the most recent posts in the thread, so you'll have to excuse me if I've overlooked this....but the only thing I've heard said (in these recent posts) is that Funcom failed to deliver on some things promised, not that they cut things.  They DID cut things.  Bar fights, for one, is a real easy one to spot.  The entire bloody money PvP system is another.  Thats neither here nor there really....since the most current discussion was strictly about the comparison between WAR and AOC and the choice both are making and each implication therein.

To the people who complain about a class being called "Hammerer":
There's a reason for this: EA/Mythic has (read about it a few months ago, don't quote me on that) a strict contract running with the corporation "Games Workshop Ltd".
Games Workshop is the owner of the Warhammer tabletop series and this online game might be their first and maybe only BIG opportunity to promote their own product. Now Games Workshop is not a small company by all means, their games have a pretty big and healthy community in the US and in Europe, they are the "big boy" in the miniatures business. Warhammer Fantasy is close to 30 years old in case you wondered.

I'v been playing Warhammer tabletop games for about 12 years now and the graphical design of the classes in WAR looks very similar to the miniatures of the tabletop game.
Also the names of many classes are the same as in the tabletop game. Black Guard, Witch Elf, Black Orc, Sorceress, Hammerer, etc. are the exact same names of the corresponding Warhammer Fantasy tabletop units/characters.

Here as an example, the Witch Elf:

When it comes to Mythic and Funcom: Mythic had quite a success with Dark Age of Camelot (it got worse over time tbh), but as we know post-WoW times and expectations have changed. But doing it even worse than Funcom does is beyond imaginable at this point. Also the chances for WAR becoming an impressive success compared to AoC are way higher, given the background and circumstances of the warhammer trademark...compared to the amount of incompetence and appaling business ethics causing Mr. Howard to turn in his grave.

I don't think any halfway "decent" (in AoC terms) patch will make enough players come back. The core design of the game itself doesn't grant much long term entertainment, at least it didn't for me and many others obviously.
It's with new MMO's as it is with dating a girl you haven't met before. The first impression is key. If you mess that one up there won't be much "happening" afterwards.

judging from history I have seen I have more faith in Mythic than I do in Funcom. DAoC and Anarchy Online were both launched at about the same time. DAoC was a moderate success, AO was a steaming heap of dung.

I was not really interested in WAR to begin with but I have been hearing good things from sources which will not be named and I will drop 50 on it when it releases unless Turbine releases Mines of Moria at the same time. The way I see things, Mythic would have to try real hard to screw WAR up as bad as Funcom screwed AoC up.

Post was referring to classes only.  Some people take comments too far out of context.
