Game: Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising
Entertaining video Ripper, enjoyed it :D. Looking like the games running a lot smoother now. Glad to see all that testing didn't go to waste. Will have another look at this game when more of the promised features are implemented.
They improved the game 10 fold. I played the original beta when it came out, and could barely even move. The game is definitly polished, and it's been a lot of fun to play. PvP will be cool to see once it's implemented, the estate system also peaks my interest.
I bought G&H and regret it. Even at the highest settings, the graphics are mediocre. There's no crafting and no PvP. Questing is the same old, same old as you find in WoW, Rift, AoC, etc. My fighter minion could not hold aggro and early on, I found a quest I could not complete - there may be more bugs, but I quit. The pricing is out of whack - you can get Rift cheaper and it's more polished, more feature rich, more stable, etc. Shame on MMORPG.COM for promoting this game.
lol mmorpg.com obviously got payed to do this, but this guys acccent is EXTREMELY annoying, I almost had to turn the volume off. This game looks subpar at best, unless you REAAALLLY want a mmo in the gladiator style world, then I'd shoot for something like AoC with more cooler graphics and combat, plus it's F2P 1-80...
@sgt fab and alala...just because the game has dated graphics or are,nt capable of using mionions properly it does,nt make a bad game..this game is like no other..nothing like wow,eq or the rest.i can assure you this is a great game to play.and the Heatwave team are a superb bunch of peeps.yes there are still bugs in game ,same as any other newly released game will have.the only downside i can say about the game is that they should have saved release til all content was ready imo, apart from that its a great game.
@Alalala @SgtFabulous PvP is being implemented, and the game is a lot different from WoW or Rift. Granted it's just been released and needs a few fixes/patches the game is mighty fun to play and is worth playing if your into Ancient Rome/Gladiators.
I thought the game was pretty much the same as a few years ago when it tanked while in beta. Some folks might like it but I wouldn't play it again if they paid me. Squad combat, same mechanic as before. It's dull, IMO.
Ok i couldn't even sit through the review could all i could think about was WOW if you have to try that hard to make a games sound good it prob isn't. That and i wish i had a carnivorous ear wig rig now. plz stop doing reviews your voice is making my brain hemorrhage.
And once again I'm baffled by a game company that thinks p2p is the way to go for their somewhat-complete game. This is totally a game I would try were it f2p but there is no way I pony up $50 to try this game with the prospect of a $10 per month sub.
I beta tested this game, and i have to say i loved it, but the problem i have with it is that they are what i call WoWafying it. It has great graphics imo, some of the best ive seen, and the music is simply awesome, but there are some things i really hate. Making quests appear on a map, takes all the immersion out. You should have to talk to npcs in areas, and they should all have something to say. Not just run up to some guy with a glowy thing over his head, and then run to the spot marked on the map, and run back to the guy with a glowy thing over his head.
One example of this was in beta, i had a quest to find this guy, and i had no idea where he was, but i knew where his house was, and so i talked to the npc outside his house and he told me where the guy was. Games were made like that 20 years ago, where you actually had to interact with npcs and read what they said, rahter than just clicking your way through, not bothering to read or care what anyone said. Thats mindless and stupid, and fine for people who play WoW, but this game could have appealed to our intelligence.
Another mechanic that i consider a slap in the face is bind on pickup. This means you dont have enough content, and so you want people to have to run dungeons over and over again, instead of doing fun things. It leads to problems, like stupid people picking up loot that doesnt belong to them etc.
In the end, this game is not finished, and certainly not worth 50 dollars.
On the other hand, if they implement PVP in a good way, as in more than 2 factions, and in zones specifically for pvp, this game could be awesome. I havent been in a game world i found more beautiful since daoc, and imo this game is much prettier than daoc. It feels like a real place.
If only devs would realize copying WoW is totally not the way to make a good game.
If this game was free to download with a 9 dollar sub, i would probly play it, even if i do think the devs have Wowitus, like every other dev team out there.
I played during beta and its an o.k. game. Its standard quest to level fare with minions so you dont have to group thrown in. As expected in a game that makes it unnecessary to interact with other people...people do not interact with each other. So it was kind of like playing a theme park on rails kinda game solo while you see other people on the rails next to you. You can wave and yell at them and sometimes get a reaction but mostly not.
The powers and attacks were fairly standard just split up so you have more ways to feel satisfied that you are advancing your character.
I did notice on that preview that there were only 3 servers all with low populations.
People have sensitive ears I guess. He didn't have the greatest voice in the world, but it definately didn't grate on my nerves at all. He was well spoken and didn't slur his words, he didn't say "uh" and other fillers for people who don't speak in front of groups.
Looks like a sweet game
Tue Jul 05 2011 6:49PM ReportArnold Review's games now?
Wed Jul 06 2011 1:14AM ReportLooks good though I'll wait until more features are implemented I'm not really into buying a beta.
Wed Jul 06 2011 2:02AM ReportWau it looks good and different from all this fantasy games. Will try when pvp is implemented

Wed Jul 06 2011 8:38AM ReportWhat the heck type of accent is that?

This game doesn't hold a candle to AoC.

Wed Jul 06 2011 1:49PM ReportI rather listen to Microsoft Sam voice for a review, we can't stand it omg!!
Wed Jul 06 2011 2:28PM ReportOh boo hoo, its not an accent you are used to. I thought it was a good preview and better than the last few that RipperX did.
Wed Jul 06 2011 3:04PM ReportI thought the game was pretty much the same as a few years ago when it tanked while in beta. Some folks might like it but I wouldn't play it again if they paid me. Squad combat, same mechanic as before. It's dull, IMO.

Fri Jul 08 2011 9:43PM ReportThe graphics look pretty good in my opinion. But it's just not enough to make me pull the trigger.
I'm looking for something different, but I hope this game does well.
Sat Jul 09 2011 3:15AM ReportLooks ok, but I don't think it's a game that I'd want to keep up with
Sun Jul 10 2011 9:32PM ReportThe game should be F2P its graphics are outdated for something 2011 even with my beast computer. Good luck to those who play I hope you have fun
Mon Jul 11 2011 9:15AM ReportWe have fun:) Game is vey good and interesting.
Mon Jul 11 2011 9:50AM ReportMan.... Not to say the game looks bad. It doesn't. It looks like a lovely roman mythos themepark....
But shouldn't it just cut the crap and launch f2p?
Mon Jul 11 2011 5:03PM ReportRipper, I am an old DJ. Please don't try so hard to vocalize. It sounds horrible.
