More flaming always means your post is right, lol.

Bad news, but glad to know I could bring it to the site first =P

Nice early warning... Guess it wasnt a rumor after all. Kinda shocking though, one would think they wouldnt have done pre-orders if the game was gonna be "on hold indefinitely". Now they have to refund all the pre-orders, right? While theres a moderate damage to their rep, its better to drop the ball before release then release an incomplete game. They picked the lesser of two evils.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Why is this not mentioned on the official site?  I cannot believe they would cancel this game and allow a stinker like Vanguard to keep running.  Or that Pirates thing.  I've played or seen both betas, and G&H is far more polished than Pirates.  But neither one is great.

Frankly, I think they should cancel them all (G&H, Pirates, and Vanguard) and focus their marketing energies on a re-release of EQ.  It's got more to offer than all 3 of those others combined, and with an updated game engine it would easily be the best game on the market.

SoE is publishing G@H and PotBS , NOT developing it so the most SoE can do is cancel their publishing contract with the developers of these games, its up to the developers if the games are going to be cancelled. Vanguard is a different story because they bought sigil's assests several months AFTER the game launched.

Its good to know the facts sometimes before making blanket statements .

When did I say SOE was the developer?  I did not.  I guess I should have said "drop" rather than "cancel," but I assure you I am fully aware of the way these things work.  If you are going to quibble about semantics, take it up with the OP.

Its a shame really. I played this game in beta and while it did need alot of work, it had potential. One of the few games I've tested recently I can honestly say that about...

Played: SWG 2.5 years, WoW 4 years
Tried: RF Online, Ryzom, Daoc, CoH/CoV, Lotro, Vanguard, Guild Wars
Beta Tested: SWG, RF Online, Lotro, Potbs, Tabula Rasa, G&H, Perfect World

This game was never going to be the big hit from what I heard about it. I think this is a good thing for the MMO genre in the long run.

I beta'd it for a couple months. I had just hit level 40.

I really had no intentions of buying the game at launch. Not because I thought it sucked, just because it just wasn't my style. ie...way too solo friendly and not enough social interaction. I say that so you know I'm not some fanboi trying to blow sunshine. With that I'd have to say that it was going to be a good game for the audience it was trying to appeal to.

It was a pretty well done and solid game when they shut it down. 2-3 more months and it would have been ready for store shelves. It wouldn't have been a huge hit I don't think but it would have been successful with 100-200k subs if I had to guess. Just wasn't getting much publicity and viral marketing for some reason so it is really hard to guess.

Damn, that sucks. I was really hoping for a rome-based game that didn't suck.

Should there not be an apology to the OP by some for calling the OP a liar ?

Just a thought.

Just a thought.

Welcome to the internet! =)

But anyways, sorry for anyone who was looking forward to this game.

I was going to try it out, after all, I work where I get free betas and stuff for all games. Still, anyone looking for a good game to move to, pre-order Hellgate London and get into the beta, it's well worth it.

I agree with the poster who said I was looking forward to a good Rome MMO. If only Mythic would pick back up Imperator =)

You heard right. As of today, SOE announced that Gods & Heroes will be cancelled until further notice.

As sad as that sounds... well, it is sad.

Atleast, this is the e-mail we got at EBGames today, from the head office.

Apparently in a long list of info that SOE sent to head office today, they said Gods and Heroes was cancelled.

I didn't even know Gods and Heroes was being published by SOE. I was so confused when I read this.

Anyone else know anything about it?

EDIT: I looked into it more, and it seems SOE does have involvement http://www.station.sony.com/pc.vm?sel=upcoming
I guess my info is not as wrong as it sounds. It's weird though, since we just got our pre-order boxes like last week.

I think I saw something about this on the perpetual boards. They sold the publishing rights to SOE. But, unlike Vanguard, SOE was to have no say so when it came to the game, the content and anything else that was truly relevant. SOE just got a cut of the money...

Kind of an odd way to go about it.

Either way, the game is now gone.

As for those who were wondering about pre-orders, and as people have said, just go into your retailer and ask for your money back.

Even if they can't give you your money back in cash, you can still get things like credit.

I know that at EB, if you don't have your reciept anymore (im guilty of this so many times) as long as you have a piece of ID, we give you store credit.

It's a shame Gods & Heroes is cancelled, I was looking forward for this game.

Still, I think the game turned too much into a fantasy game with lots of mythological mobs. When I first saw screenshots a few years back, I thought it was going to be a pure historical roman mmo, but I was really wrong, so not too disapointed after all.

What surprises me, is that PE told us a few years back that G&H and STO were on different franchise and budget, and both teams had nothing to do between each other. Seems that was a big lie. They're killing G&H to concentrate on STO. Which brings us to the trust we now have in PE to develop a MMO: really low
