Because there are plenty of us who don't like or want f2p? Most people who play probably don't play any F2P MMOs, I know I don't.

It has MONTHLY content updated with new features/quests. If it was F2p you'd just pay as much or more for the content you get now.

To be honest, I'm surprised it's not as well given Turbines other games(DDO, and LOTRO).

I'm happy about it mind you and don't want that to happen.  I don't think it'll happen because AC's system doesn't lend itself well to a F2P or freemium model.

I do think if they lowered the sub a bit, say back down to the $9.99USD it used to be, more people might be more inclined to sign back up.

What I don't get is why they won't try their hand at another sequel.

They have the technology.

They have the capability to turn an MMO flop into an MMO hit.

AC2 will be that hit.

Better than it was before.... Better, stronger, faster.

There was an AC2 and it was a failure. Closed down after a couple of years (or something like that). As for the orginal AC; I'm admazed they dont repackage it. Give it a total graphics overhaul and open up a new world/server with no character transfers. Let people play it for free for say 10 hours and get them hooked (a bit like Rift with it's free first 20 levels). The game is solid and is still the most enjoyable online game I've every played. But the worlds feel dead now with too few people playing. The graphics look really dated and the sub is simply too high. But I did love playing this game when it was released many years ago. And if they did as I said above then I'd return to this game in a flash.

I do not remember how long it lasted but wasn't too many years. It was horrid in beta. Tried a free month sometime after launch and still horrid. AC wasnt that bad back then when I played. Not sure about currently.

I think a true sequel to AC would be successful.  One that remained true to the original unlike the farce that was AC2.

The problem is the people that are Turbine today are not the same people that made AC years ago.  My fear is they would totally screw it up in favor of WoWification.  AC was made by gamers with a passion for RPG's.  That mentality just isn't prevalent in the industry anymore, if it's even present at all.

In addition, I'm sure that the players wouldn't appreciate the mass of pre-teens that going free to play would attract. Most older games I've seen go free to play end up with chat being filled for a few months with:

"omg dis gaems graphix sux, lol y do u pay to play dis?"

"wow these graphx suck"

"wut a st00pid game, back 2 wow"

MMO gamers that enjoy the older games seem to favor sub-based over F2P. It was interesting to see EQ add F2P, though, and based on its results, we'll see if AC, UO, EVE, DAoC, Puzzle Pirates, etc follow suit.

Puzzle Pirates has been free to play before it became popular, just an fyi.

No its not worth paying.

Listen, AC was the best MMO experience for me. I think its lightyears ahead of anything we have on the market today, especially the depth of character creation and combat. The ability to dodge projectiles? Modify attacks? Skill based? An actual death penalty? All great features that are lost among a stagnant, impotent and lame MMO industry.

AC is like a crashed fighter jet in the 9th century. Even if it was discovered by intelligent people, they wouldnt know what to do with it!

But even to me - AC is not worth paying for. Its not a new game. Its over a decade old. I cant put that amount of investment into the game at the moment, especially with the economy.

The fact that Turbine hasnt made this F2P yet is just torture to me, and I'm sure others. For God Sakes, when theres so little sandbox games in the market today, at least make it F2P with some sort of cosmetic cash shop.

Its like these companies are purposefully muffling sandbox games, even if there are players out there wanting to play it.

The only people playing AC at the moment are die hards. The only reason I would see Turbine's reason for not making it F2P is because they are fearful of AC cannibalizing the population of LOTRO. Of course what they dont realize is that AC is a totally different animal when compared to LOTRO.

Make it F2P already. I'll be back in a heartbeat.

Even AC players have discussed this point before and guess what, plenty say they would quit if it did go F2P.

I personally would not like it to be F2P and currently don't play any F2P games and have no plans to jump into any. I will continue to play subscription games though as I prefer that model.

Also it being old has nothing to do with if it is worth the money. When 2 million people buy brand new game after brand new game only to keep quitting them 2-4 weeks in out of boredom, it is clear to see a game with a lot of substance (like AC) but has older graphics and interfaces is a better use of your money. It is even more clear when you do the math. Pay $60 for a brand new game and get bored in 2 weeks. Or for that same $60 you could have had 5 months of AC play, the first 2 weeks of which would have been completely free.

Years ago I learned never to be hyped by the new games coming out. Never EVER preorder anything. And that it is best to wait until a game gets to the free trial straight into subscription mode (meaning no box price) before playing it. Why? It is a far better value and when a game has reached that point it has far more content, more features and less bugs then it did when it cost 50-60 bucks.

True value is in the older games, not the newer ones. Some players get this and every month there are players on the AC official forums and in game that have just returned after not playing for years. Everytime they talk about how fun it is and how much better it is than those newer games too.

I will also say that sandbox and F2P don't work well together.

A big aspect of sandbox games is to go out and see what you find. Collect those things, trade them with other people, see what you can use them for or make with them etc etc.

That major aspect is ruined when instead of going out to find and discover these things, these new materials, new weapons, new armors etc etc. you instead are buying them from a store. That isn't a sandbox world anymore.

AC will most likely not go F2P.

I won't say never but, but it has been stated repeatedly by devs that it is not possible with the code.

I wouldn't argue a bit of a lower price, but I am happy paying what I do monthly for this game as it is still a gem amongst turds IMO.  I have been here since beta, minus a short break, and I don't see me leaving any time soon.  AC simply offers so much more than what other MMO's do despite it's age and the devs keep pumping out updates.

Amen, it is silly and careless that they charge to play this game, and to say that current subs would quit is just absurd.  Are they playing the game because they love the game or becuase they get charged money?  This is not an exclusive club it is an Massively MULTIPLAYER game.  At the moment iit is a  game that is 90% dead and very few care about-shame really

Clearly more care about this game than all the MMOs that have come and gone while AC has been around for 13 years straight.
