January Release Notes

Turbine has posted the release notes for Asheron's Call's January Update.

On a magic-immersed planet called Auberean, in a time of turmoil known as Portal Year Zero (PY0), an impetuous, young mage named Asheron Realaidain unwittingly opened portals to an unknown and hostile alien world, setting upon his homeworld a mass invasion the likes of which it had never before seen. The Olthoi, a large insect-like specious, sent in waves of shadowy man-sized machines of death, all but decimating Auberean’s defenseless population. Those few who survived saw no hope for the home they once knew and were ushered through new portals opened by Asheron, unaware of what may lie on the other side…
Perhaps it’s the guilt of the devastation he unknowingly invited in, or perhaps it’s a calling he feels deep inside. Either way, Asheron maintains faith in Auberean’s survival and elected to stay behind. Now Asheron calls upon survivors of great potential and even greater courage to aid in the resurrection of a lifeless planet. Will you be one who re-enters the portal in heed of Asheron’s Call?
Gaining experience points in Asheron’s Call is done through combat and questing and are used by the player to improve their character’s abilities by spending them on a large variety. In addition to experience points, combat and questing can yield equipment which can then be upgraded, or “tinkered” via Asheron’s Call’s crafting system. Also, while Asheron’s Call is a fantasy MMORPG, it steers clear of traditional fantasy setting inhabitants such as elves and goblins by creating its own uniquely original creature compendium.
Asheron’s Call is one of few MMOs known for its friendly stance toward third-party software, allowing for fan-made plug-ins which expand the MMORPG’s functionality. In addition to its two expansion packs (Dark Majesty and Throne of Destiny), Asheron’s Call receives monthly updates to its gameplay dynamics, storyline and quests.
