Gamers who use RMT are like athletes who use steroids

I would enjoy playing a game like classic EQ again, as long as there is a fresh server start.

I think the market for MMO's is so hot right now, they are even dredging up the old abject failures, like horizons.   Easy fix, just rename it had hope a bunch of fools sign up and spend money on it.

Have you ever dredged? There's plenty of live bottom-dwellers that can come up in that process. They're normally pretty ugly and it's a kindness if they never see the light of day, but they still qualify as both alive and dredgeable.

I don't think Ozmo's analogy is accurate - the new owners have slapped a new name on it and also fixed a lot of problems - but a bunch of bug fixes don't add up to a new identity so it does come off looking a bit opportunistic.

I think the name change was a good idea, but prematurely executed.

The games coming on 5 years now and I think it would be better if they just had a sequal lke EQ did to catch up on the times...

Granted they don't have the reasources to make a sequal but the graphics are outdated, the performance is low on many machines, and it has major issues with vista.

I liked the game when it first came out and played it over FFXI but the population is low and the game is showing its age.  I just think it'd be so much better starting over instead of trying to fix the countless issues in the game.

Make games you want to play.

They might not have the resources, but others do.

There are a few core, excellent features of Horizons/Istaria/Dead and Beaten Horse that have kept it (barely) alive all these years, while other mmos have disappeared forever.

  • Dragons.
  • Highly customisable building system.
  • Decent crafting system.
  • Some game elements that promote a sense of community.

Any other mmo that came along and offered these, along with a fresh game engine and graphics, would spell an instant end to H/I/DaBH.

Dragon trapped in human body

You are right green.

I really miss this things you list and I am still seraching for something similar. I tried all the big games and many F2Ps meanwhile but never found something like Horizons again. Alas... istaria is far to huge for some handfulls of people digging in their lairs and plots.

Ages ago the blight spread and brought the threat of undeads onto the living races. Nowadays the whole game is undead. Neither dead nor alive. The only place to see players frequently is Bristugo, because of its portals. That is everything else than enough, to make a word looking alive.

I hope there will be a sequel or another game with at least a Horizons-like crafting system and other races than only the always seen humans, elves and dwarves.

Hail to thee, dragons of Istaria.

x2 for the sequel

I quit because of the lag but it was still a very enjoyable game. Crafting was indepth and a valuable skill, classes were unique, groups were easy to join, consignment shop was a unique idea (I liked the aspect of paying a percentage of asking price up front when you put an item up for sale), you could cross train classes somewhat, and playable dragons.  It is the only game where some areas made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

What will they do in a few years when the majority of players will be using Vista? That is a very big reason why it is a dead horse.

Microsoft has release a tool that generates crash reports for program in Vista to help figure out compatability problems. The Devs hav this tool now so hopefuly this will help them figure out what the problem is. Hopefuly this will also work with Windows 7 as it has the same problem as Vista.
