Overall...D&D Online is a good game.  The game has very good graphics.  The quests are, for the most part, very good.  D&D pnp is not a solo game and thus having very little solo-able quests is keeping with the tradition.  Character generation is fair.  The quests usually need a mixture of character types which is very refreshing.  But there is one thing that makes this game routine after a very short while...the amount of content.

If you want a truly D&D type feel to a game it should have a load of content.  Sadly D&D Online does not.  Yes you can repeat quests on increasingly more difficult levels.  The new module added favor which makes the prior have more meaning.  But in D&D you should not have to repeat quests!!!  Imagine, for all you PnP'ers out there, if your DM repeated quests/adventures on your weekly/monthly campaigns...you would probably crucify him/her and find a new DM very quickly.  Sure, in D&D Online you can roll another character (I have 4) and start from the beginning once again.  But for a game that holds the D&D title this should not be the case.

Come on devs...you have a good game...but in my opinion, to have a game people are going to want to stay with then you have to implement a boat load more of content.  At this point in the game you really need at least twice the content that you have now.  And no...I don't mean so we can have uber characters running around.  Heck...I'd be happy if you lowered the experience each quest gives...if only you would have more content.

Just my suggestion,
Thanks

I''m a Worm!

I reckon thats why D&D Online was pretty doomed from the start.  The thing that makes D&D great isnt really the classes, the lore, the monsters, or the skills...  Its the people!   And you cant fully capture that in a video game, especially when your DM is a computer.

Thats why we really have to rely on games like NWN for our D&D video gaming, I think.

You have a point. It's obvious they didn't think about the in-depth gameplay because it gets so boring. But, thats what happens when you re-create a RPG board game for the internet without making upgrades. =P

I am appalled that you can repeat quests in DDO. I agree here, quests should not be able to be repeated, and what you do should make you feel like you are actually having an impact on the game world. And a game like DDO should have virtually limitless content for the casual player, there should always be things to do, always.

This definitely kills the DnD feel in the DDO world. I run a Forgotten Realms campaign, i I started repeating quests then my party would agree that it's time to elect a new DM. Thankfully, I always have new places to go, things to do, people to talk to, and places to explore. That should make up the essence of DnD.

Fanboys are always trying to over this fact, but the reason why quests are repeatable has to do with the fact that DDO was a half finished game with not lot of quests. The only way Turbine could keep the fanboys entertained was by giving them the priviledge to repeat old quest. But as I said in the other forum, some people were smart enough to not fall for the repetition and left because they realize DDO provided nothing outside of dungeon clawing.

Only as far as we seek can we go. Only as much as we dream can we be.

Quests need to be repeatable otherwise it would be almost impossible to make pick-up groups from the server population. Imagine doing an adventure then you have a friend that joins the game later and you can not help him with it. You can not help your guild-mates with it if you have already done it, and so on.

Other MMOs have content that is repeated a lot more often than players repeat most DDO content. I played in the same dungeons for dozens of times in my years of Everquest. In DDO I might only do a certain adventure 3 or 4 times per character. That is significantly less repetition than in other MMOs.

The Difference with DDO that makes this repetition less attractive is:

1. The NPC says up front "Do you want to repeat this adventure?"

This is a very poor (out of character, not D&D) way to present a game that is supposed based on the D&D roleplaying game.

2. There is almost no randomness in adventures other than rare loot rewards in a fair number of adventures. Very few dungeons will have a random boss replace a normal monster. Traps are more random in recent adventures but there are dozens without this feature.

3. Monsters always spawn in exactly the same location and there is always the same type of monster and number of monsters. These monsters get more dangerous on higher difficulty settings, but it is otherwise the same dungeon all over again. Monsters should increase in number and use some different tactics on different difficulty settings.

4. You can not chose the adventure difficulty that you wish. You are required to do Normal then Hard then Elite, unless someone who has done it before opens the instance for you. This seems too artificial to be in a roleplaying game. A better system would be to have a different story for each difficulty setting and have different encounters and challenges that use the same map and monster set. Solo or Normal is the introduction to the quest series, and Elite is the conclusion to the story.

If not today, then tomorrow

To all those who do not like this game why not go out and make your own.  That way we can say how much it sucks. I have been playing now for more then a few months, I like the game better then some others out there. there are more then a hundred quest and more comming in march. I have never had a hard time finding a group for any quest, and as to blocking the next level up till you did the lower one to me that makes sense as the traps and monsters are harder to kill on the higher settings. Take the game for what it is a fun past time to waste time. Want real D&D go to a game shop and buy the books and run a game.

Good Edkenny, the game is already lacking people, but you rudely suggestion that they go elsewhere for a game that's better than this. (Which people have no problem finding) You're not doing Turbine any favor by getting rid of potential customers.
