This is a great GAME. Regardless of whether it is a tru MMORPG or not.. it is great fun to play, and that is the essence of a game.

Suggestions: Simple improvments

I n game newspaper, where we can publsh articles.. stories .. rumours..

Basic crafting. eg: taking a masterwork weapon and making it +1 etc.. using D&D rules.

An ongoing live storyline. There are millions of D&D players out there, perhaps we can get somelone to write for the game.

Live events: The ability for players of all levels/time zones  to participate in this. ie live EVENTS.  Even if its just on the splash screen to start with.

Unique named items, spread around the dungeons.

I agree with all your ideas except for the "unique" items.

Are you suggesting that these unique items would be one per server or something? or just really rare "epic/artifact" items?

The crafting is something that would be great, taking some of the multitude of gems looted and giving a sword/armor +1 or maybe just a different color for that matter! I am sure its something eventually coming, but that would be down the road quite a bit.

Jypsy.. Several unique items per server..

That way we start to add some real - in game history to the game..

eg Conversation in the Rusty Nail, from a player..

'Did you hear, Grundarak the Bold, found the 'Sword of Eternal Darkness'  in a hidden room in the lower levels of the Quickfoot hideout.., I wonder what else is down there'

(he would have rolled a 26 on search check to find it..and would take an 'ACTIVE ' search to find it.. and have to be within 5 feet of it.. for an example..(26 to keep in reach of lower players.. but could range that upwards form there)

That item could be traded around....

Another idea.. PLayer run markets.. Simple to create.. we just do it.,

Set a time based on GMT, that anyone wishing to buy or sell say weapons.. come to the big tent.. like the local Caringbah markets.. bypassing the Brokers..

You could have times./days for swords... shields.. BUT IMPOIRTANT.. the PLAYERS do this IN GAME RPG mode.

These times could be advertised in a 'daily bugle..' as per my previous post...
