Well IMO, DDO is turning out pretty well. I have never actually played pnp d&d so I'm not sure how much the MMORPG version follows the version of the pnp version. I have yet to see if i get into beta, but so far I think the new real- time combat sounds pretty cool. Also, I am expecting to see a superior quest system.  The only thing I am a bit dissapointed with is the all instance zones. Now normally this wouldn't be a problem to me, but most of my friends play WoW and I like to instance with friends.

I think you are misunderstanding how the instances work. Its very much like in Guildwars. You may be in the same place as you're friends but in a different instance of that same location. But top left corner has a drop down which allows you to change instances of a location :)

Instance dungeons allow you to group with people and go in together.

So you won't be missing out on instancing with your friends :)
