"PNP will always be the best Role-Playing Experience"

Go with a human archer they are a lot of fun, but also look at the prestiege book for an archer that you like. Match your attributes with what it calls for in the prestiege book. It might take you to lvl 6 to get to the right prestiege class pending on how your DM rules the roles or points he gives you at character creation.

Personally if you're going to play this adventure out untill the high levels. Go with a monk. They're hard to be in the beggining, but once you get a bracer of def, gloves of dex, periapt of wisdom and a monks belt... you're god

I had a lvl 15 monk with a monks belt, i did 5 attacks +21/21/21/16/11, all doing 2d10 dmg :D

Plus at later levels monks become immune to alot of things, they get healing(not much, but it could save your life), slow fall, teleportation, magic/lawfull/adamantine fists for passing damage reduction, great saves and an assortment of other abilities.

Monks are by far the best rounded classes, they can do almost anything. But don't presige them... it's useless :P

Shrouding all the ground around me is this holy crow above me. Black as a hole within a memmory. I stick my hand into the shadow and pull the pieces from the sand to try attempt to reassemble and suggest just who I might have been.

hehe, alot of different people will tell alot of different things, as most classes can be very powerful if played right and depending on the situations.

I would say a druid, as they can adapt to almost any situation and come out alive (or flee). Maybe if you want to be a little different, try a dwarven druid wielding a big *ss maul ;)

I may've lost me beard to the damned ankheg acid, but I've still got me shield.

Rogues are great, though I haven't had much chance to really get the full feel of playing one.  But in the next campaign my friend is running i will be playing a gnome rogue.  Should be  interesting...

 You never saw me here...

The enemy is so dumb! They believe that WE are the enemy! - A famous orc commander.

Personnally I would play a barbarian in such a setting.

D12 & damage reduction combine with good magical items...rage or greater rage is certainly not bad...not bad at all.  Maybe would go for a prestige class...a few good ones.

Or maybe a dwarven defender...if the levels are VERY high.

Almost nothing bypass the damage reduction of barbs & defenders (beside energies attacks), which make it a nice ability on top of the d12.

Could use a reach weapon that can be used in close combat as well, and try to get a magical item that make you large(vertical) so you have a reach +2...they just do poor base damage, which is fine considering you can more then cope for that with combat reflexs, sidestep, cleave and the feat to gain an additional 5 feats after a successfull cleave...so you may move 5' for 3 times in a round and get those AoO again...not to mention a whirlwind attack with such a setting reaches a little army of maybe 36 targets (wont be that many, even if it could be...8 + 12 + 16).

But around a table, with friends, I would play about anything...this example is for computer games.

But I am a powerplayer.

I liked Order of the Initiate bow from COmplete Fighters book.

Complete Adventurer has a Scout class which has some nice abilities.

And hey the ninja's in the book work too, if allowed. Roguish (Sudden Strike) and Monk (AC bonus) like abilities with some other effects added in.

In every life a little rain shall fall

I agree with ryuchi... but. For me its gotta be the rogue. Quik tongue hands, and yes daggers. sneak attack stays with you till the end and they get crazy stuff after level 10... I personely like to mis magic with my dagger. But if were talking strictly melee... ill own you all with a rogue

It really depends on what your DM is allowing. If he will allow ALL books then HUMAN MONK+Book of Exalted Deeds!!!

I say humnan, because you'll need the extra feat at lv 1. Monks dont wear armor- and at higher levels their fists are the more more dangerous than mostany melee weapon. So0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0oo

The feat Vow of Poverty(pg 48& in Book of Exalted Deeds) (Prereq. Sacred Vow) is the monk's best friend. Where you cant have an epic artifact sword or where the armor of the fallen hero- you dont need it! As you level with this feat you gain bonuses to armor (deflection and divine), bonuses to saves and Abilities. At 20 you'll have bonuses like +8,+6, +4,+2 to abilitiesl; +10 AC and +2 nat armor, and +3 Deflection bonus, extra feats, regeneration, and dmg red/evil!!! This + Vow of Peace- if you play it right- can make one of the MOST bad azz allies you can have.::::28::
