I was searching today, and noticed it's like 10 bucks to get the game on ebay, or some out of country CD key sellers (yes they are legit, just look around) sell it for like 5 bucks...

Sorry to necro the thread, but I just bought the game two days ago at my local Gamestop: I got the Limited Edition (in-game bling, paper map, poster, etc.) retailing for $59.99 for $14.99.

Really, cost is not a reason not to try the game.

The gameplay isn't perfect, but it beats every other MMORPG on the market.  "Click and Forget" combat systems make me want to throw up.  My mind needs a lot more to be going on than a couple skills to be recharging for it to be occupied.

If you think the gameplay in DDO is not fun, at all.. then I don't know how you could enjoy the gameplay in any other mmorpg out there, maybe aside from AoC.. but that, in essense, is still not much different.

In DDO you need to active block, tumble, run, jump, swing, cast, aim, and then combine all of those for effective tactics (EDIT: Also you need to continuosly switch weapons and armor for different fights)

In the mainstream MMORPG you have to right click, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, macro macro macro, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 SUPERMACRO!!!! 1 2 3 4 ..

Also there are no "Hail worthless adventurer! Can you please tell my friend that i have a letter for him! Then can you come back to me and I can give you the letter! Then you can tell me his expression, then go back and get HIS letter, bring it to me, then go back to him for MY expression.... Oh and get me some (0/3) Milk, and some (0/1999999999999999999999999999) boar meat while your out!"

Maybe you just dont like either, but then what would you be doing on forums for games that only have that?

DDO is a great game.

I have been gaming for many years and played just about every North American released MMO made.

I do not play DDO anymore because I got burned out on it, and won't return, BUT I have some great memories of it. If you've NEVER played it, I say DO IT! There's very little on the market right now that comes close.

YES, it has many flaws. It requires a decent guild or a solid group of friends -- pugging it up is not reliable enough. It is also the biggest timesink as far as MMOs. You have to get a group ready, agree to do the same quests, etc. BUT, it's worth it.

I think DDO is awesome. Its graphics are looking more and more dated and the animations for a lot of the combat is awful in a 2008 context (monk are a good example of this) but still, the overall experience is fun.

There are NO "collect 10 mushroom quests" or any played out crap. There are dynamic storyline based quests that are very different from one another. Every player has a role and it can be amazing fun. You have rogues navigating complex and deadly traps trying to disarm them, for example. It's good stuff. It is totally original, in my opinion.

Even if it cost 50 bucks, if you've never played it, go do it! If you give it a chance you won't regret it. I don't mean just going to 4th level, either. Give it a few weeks and I bet you'll be hooked.

Cool, i think i'll buy it, i tested the game with the trial and i really liked the game, i'll try to call some friends to play and it'll be like the PnP RPG on PC lol.

Heed my warning though.

It felt like an amusement park, you had the npc next to the instance.

I couldn't really feel like i was playing an mmo and meh.. I guess it's good for some. Ive heard casual players can really enjoy this game.

Your able to get DDO cheap everywhere these days.

Started playing about 4/5 weeks ago. As im not able to play much in groups, due to working situation etc, i find DDO perfect for a more casual gaming style.

There is a lot of quest at the begining you can solo, both in solo mode and normal mode. Most quests are done in about 20-40min. outdoor quests takes longer, but your progress are being saved and u can continue with ur quest later. (By saved i mean no. of mobs killed and rare monster found etc)

Ive mostly played solo, and a little with a m8. Im currently lvl6, 90% is done solo. I have a feeling that it will be harder to solo as u get more lvls tho?
