I've spoken to a lot of friends on my MSN list and people on other sites about the stir Turbine has created with its coming expansion and the F2P structure.

Since im from the UK many of the people I speak to are european, and a lot have taken it upon themselves to do the trial.  The mistake they are making is that they are going to Codemasters European site, as naturally they would.

However Codemasters who runs DDO-Eu are NOT adopting this F2P method!  If you want to 'trial' it then go trial.ddo.com

I beleive Thelsian (or something like that) is the server where Europeans tend to be going.  I personally went to Sarlona and was rather gob smacked at how many players there were who were active.  Compared to the EU DDO its much busier!

I guess for those of  you who are "hating" this f2p idea can always take up an EU account :p

Not entirely true it seems. From what I read, I understood that they will move towards that model eventually, but not right away.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ONLINE(r): EBERRON UNLIMITED(tm)
Today Turbine announced the start of its Beta program for a new digital upgrade for DDO called Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited, (DDO Unlimited).

As in the past, Turbine will be running this Beta program on its servers
in North America to get the game ready for launch. This is a very exciting time for DDO and in the coming months, Turbine will unveil their plans to roll out DDO Unlimited to players around the world.

To clarify, for the time being, DDO Europe will not be assuming this new business model and the European DDO game service will remain a monthly subscription-based game with all new content created available to all subscribers, as has been the model up until now. As the Beta progresses we will release more information regarding the future plans for EU players.

As soon as we have more news from Turbine on what happens next we will share it.

I'm positive about what I play. If it ends & I get negative, I move on. This is how we not troll.

Not much to comment. Codemasters made very poor decision, unless they want their DDO license to experie for some reason. That way I understand, they might need to invest in some new infrastructure or something for new DDO, so they might not want to do it without purpose.

But I don't think so. I just think they imagine that old model is better for Europe. But I can tell right now that most EU folks, including me, will be playing new DDO US. Especially that they want to implement new methods of payment, or so it seemed.

Well unless CM accounce something before the release of DDO:EU they aren't going to get any new players and I very much dought the 'on the fence' players will stay when there is another option plus it's not like Turine will IP lock their game to keep the 'middleman' in profit..

It's very much a change or die situation for CM

Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

i used to play DDO on the Euro servers - i quit quite a while ago because there just wasnt enough people playing it. its a great game, but im not into solo games, the idea that will be able to play on the US servers is far more attractive by comparison, maybe its just me but generally i find in most online games, when there is a segregation of US and EU players, then you tend to find that the EU games are not as good, maybe its just me

if its possible for UK players to join the US based Unlimited game, then i'll happily start playing DDO again, otherwise i'll just stick with EVE, which doesnt segregate

Codemasters fail. I would go back to the game if it was F2P to give it a whirl with the new changes, but the small playerbase in the EU is the largest put off.
