I asked on the official forums - no response; no luck searching through the many "Turbine Download Manager sucks" threads.

Anybody here got a link to a concrete answer to this?

BTW - the reason I ask is that it DOESN'T WORK for me and at least a few other players.  It seems to be narrowed down to a Vista-64 won't run .net 1.0 or 1.1 problem [No, neither will run in 32bit mode, either - tried that]  but neither Turbine nor Microsoft has a fix or work around.  Just warning anyone with a new-ish computer - it might not work for you, either!

I don't have any problem with the TDM, but it seems like it only downloads the low rez textures. The game looks worse than it does on live. How am I supposed to get the high rez textures?

I hope they offer a single file download like they have been even if the TDM is still installed and used for updates.

That's weird. TDM does seem to have a life of its own and choose who it will not work for. I've never had a problem with it. I run Vista x64 and it has always worked, no tweaking or anything on the side. If I do remember right I to click the unblock or block window box that came up when I ran it for the first time.

I did have some problems with ATI drivers and .net, but I downloaded every SP for .net that I could find and that seemed to fix the problem. Maybe try that?

As for high-res textures if you are running the current live DDO you have to have the high-res client for it to download high-res files. There is a sticky in this forum on where to download both clients. The test client will or should download the high-res files, atleast it did for me.

EDIT: They release the patches for LOTRO days in advance. So I know they can do it for DDO, but will they is a different story.

The launcher didn't like to run in administrator mode under Vista, if it is the same problem you need to run it as a normal user or turn off UAC.

I'm positive about what I play. If it ends & I get negative, I move on. This is how we not troll.

Nope, you don't need to use TDM to patch or play : ). Just run normal game launcher, it will patch "the old way".
