The only thing stranger than fact is...MMORPG.COM |
If any of you play pen and paper D&D, you WILL NOT want crafting. Crafting magical items in the 3.5 edition rules ect require exotic materiala <no problem>, a wizards lab, priests alter <no problem> An investment of a serious portion of your experience points dependent upon the lvl, and power of said magic Item <PROBLEM!!!> Sometimes a permenant loss of hp, and or abiliy point <PROBLEM>, and weeks/months researching and crafting with no adventuring during research and crafting. I myself find this no problem because you can create new spells ect under the D&D rules in this manner, <pen/paper>. |

Crafting is the least important part of an MMO to me. i could care less if it is there or not. i like hunting for my equipment.

Djinn your powers of observation are astounding! Umm ya think if they are making a D&D MMORPG they going to try very hard to stick to the PnP rules..otherwise its just another eq, wow, ect ect game. Like the Star Trek game in development D&D from TSR to WotC has a huge fan base based on the original game/franchise. Well I said my piece

I hope they tone the system done if they are going to stick with the 3.0 rules. I mean, if I spent two weeks making a fu*king sword, I would want it to be one of the best...
All I was getting at was this... If it's a MMORPG, and it takes two weeks [D&D or not], most people won't get it. I'm a big fan of crafting... ![]() A World of Warcraft Guild |

Crafting is a big part of the Wizard class since they get the bonus item creation feats. Will wizards be compensated in some other way? I saw a demo of this game at the Gen-Con. It looked interesting. It seems that most of the adventuring will be done in private dungeons, which opens up a lot of possibilities for puzzles and such. The rep also said that the only way to get XP is to complete quests, so no XP for killing random things. There's also supposedly no out door travel. You instead leave the city heading towards a mission and the entire journey is time-spliced and the next thing you know, you're in the dungeon. JC |

There will likely be random monster encounters and points of interest on the way there though. They just cut out the pointless jogging. |

Fanboi is not a word, it is just bad grammar. |
I am new to the forums here, and I have not played paper and pencil D&D in over 20 years, but I still have fond memories. I am just curious, how different are the 3rd or 3.5 edition rules from the second or so edition I remember playing?
Also, is the online version going to be more action oriented? I seem to recall reading that it was.
Thanks for any input. |

To compete with todays games, they are going to have to offer crafting, some form of PvP even if its just good vs evil, and some random critters to kill. If all the game is going to be is one instanced dungeon after another, no thank you. Part of the fun with the pen/paper was the ability to just head to town, explore the wilderness, and see what turns up. They have a chance to put all the MMORPGs to shame if they do this just right. I know they can't please everyone but if they stick to their rule system, and how they set up their adventures this will be the best fantasy game hands down.
