I am the top ranked arena hunter on my wow server. Bored to death with WoW. So I scanned these forums to see if there was another game worth trying....

I'm glad I came here, DDO is more complex/detailed than WoW....and the community? I can't believe how friendly and helpful everyone is...it's the complete opposite of the WoW community.

This game deserves more praise than it's gotten, it's definitely not the same game it was 2 years ago.

So what class/race are you playing? What level are you up to now? What you like most about the game? What you dislike most so far about the game?

I agree, the community in DDO is pretty good, probably the best I seen in a game. I also enjoyed Vanguard community.

Anyways, glad your enjoying the game, can't wait for Mod 7 to come out.

Pretty much after leaving WoW, especially if you've been level capped for awhile, any of the top mmos will feel better.  I'm not going to get a debate going about something being better or worse.  But new things tend to be more entertaining then what you've been doing for months.

And when you consider -nothing- ever changes in the wow pvp world, the repetativeness gets really dull.

I really liked DDO when I played it, I just couldn't get my friends on board.  Glad to hear you're enjoying it.

I'm curious, how are you adjusting to the AI and the "game world"?  I know the AI alone is apples to oranges in comparison to WoW.

What about the combat system?  Shield block, jumping, tumbling, etc...how has this worked for you being that these mechanics aren't availble in WoW, from what I recall.

The "click-to-swing" is being changed on the next module.  After #7 we will just have to hold down the left mouse button rather clicking it a bazillion times.

There's a patch coming out tommorrow that's supposedly going to fix the lag issues.

The class I've played the most so far is wizard so I'm not doing too much shield blocking or tumbling atm. I plan on checking out the other classes as soon as I learn more, I've got a lot of stuff to figure out.

It's refreshing to play in an environment that isn't riddled with teenage-nerd-rage, If I made a 'hi i'm new'  post on the official WoW forums it would have been greeted in a very different way.

Quit WoW. Looking for a replacement game.

I too came from WoW after numerous 70s and enjoy the increase of interaction within the game.

I also came from wow and enjoy the game. I have been playing a rogue and a cleric and thinking of trying out a bard at some point. Not sure tho.

I gave up WOW a few months ago and now i'm back to ddo after a year off from it. Being an old time paper & pen D&D DM for a little over 20 years, i feel much more at home with ddo. WOW was great, but I never felt the attachment to it I do with dungeons and dragons. Now that i'm back, I hope I can get into the bigger areas eventually and get involved with a guild so I can get out of the starting city.

Will I go back to wow at some point? I'll probably sign up to check out the expansion, but I'll never get back
into raiding like I use to be.

See yas around the world....

For PvE there isn't a better game imo out there. The uniqueness of the quests and interaction is the best of genre. Then on top of that the game that started turn-based pnp, ironically has the fastest action combat model of any fantasy mmo, AoC included. Very FPS'ish and can play like a 3d diablo. Make sure you toss away the auto-attack skill and hang in there at the start to get use to the UI. Community is top-notch.

If you managed to get bored playing WoW here's a fun exercise for you.  Take the amount of time you played WoW and divide it by 100.  Now you have the amount of time it will take you to get bored in DDO!

Being playing DDO since beta, not bored yet, I need decent combat and quests, I don't care how big a world is, or how many kill x, deliver y quests it has, it doesn't change the fact it is a mindless grind.

Different folks, different strokes.
