Vendetta Online is a great game bc the players are so amazing. As a community they are warm, helpful & friendly. Someone I met had been playing for a decade!! No exaggeration! She'd written the player's guide but here she was making herself available to mentor a new person. Intense loyalty to the game translates into a sincere desire to mentor/ help out new players. The more experienced players help newbies avoid a lot of pitfalls.
VO is a subscription model - at $10/month it is WELL worth it.. I intensely dislike F2P bc it ends up costing far more than a subscription. I resent the fact that upgrades and even basics like ammo or health potions - are held hostage. I've almost made it a rule to avoid freemium games. Some are so tacky they are more about picking your wallet clean than providing a game experience. But I digress - excuse me.
VO's in-game economy needs an overhaul! It is the only part of the game that is showing its age. Some people have complained about the graphics, but they are on a par with games of the XSeries by egosoft. The devs spend more of their efforts on the game itself rather than focusing on razzle dazzle effects. That's a plus in my opinion.
VO allows you to be whomever you like. You can be a pirate, a trader. a miner, or a military woman. I'm not much of a joiner. I like to do my own thing and work with other players here and there. I know! Why would I even bother with an MMO if I just want PVE?? It's about the opportunity to team up - not the obligation.
Some games are about putting the player in situations that the goals are impossible to achieve without others. That's not fun for me. I'm (far) older than many other players; my friends don't play video games, sadly. If they do, they play the online equivalent of fuddy fuddy fandango! I'm serious - playing hidden object games involve a serious workout for the sweat glands! Snore!! When I do team up with other players. it's hilarious how sheltered they assume I am. There is something for everyone in VO... Well, there isn't any virtual sex that I know of.
It is set up so one can go along and not meet up with another player if I choose to. Or one can fly around areas to either meet up with friendly people or mix it up with pirates.... I'm not the uber competitive type and don't enjoy getting ganked - which is all part of the "charm" of Eve. I admit it - I lack the sociopathic streak that makes preying on new players attractive. :)
Here's the deal. You get an honest to goodness free trial with VO. I don't mean the kind of "free trial" some other games offer -- if you don't end up subscribing you end up sorry. VO does truly offer people the opportunity to try then buy - or not. I play for 6 months, get restless and move on, only to return. I've learned a lot from VO and always seem to end up coming "home."
If you are hard core space fan who enjoyed the X series - give VO a try. I think VO compares quite closely to that epic series of space games. Hope to see you in space!! The final thing that makes VO unique is that one can play on almost ANY platform. I have played it on my cell as well as my Mac laptop and my PC desktop. The game is incredibly versatile! If you are a serious space fan, please give it a go! The more diverse the player base, the better the game experience. Please come and try on VO for yourself. Chances are - you'll be very impressed.
