Linux, wow!

I was ignoring this game, but if they are going to do Linux port I may to give it a whirl.

heh,  actually, it's not being ported to linux  it's being developed for linux in parallel with windows and mac. the clients for all 3 platforms have been developed and released together througout the last 2 years of testing i've been involved in.

how does this game compare to EVE-online? Is it similar? Is it more action orientated?

welll, I do not and have never played eve so i cant tell you for certain what the differences are. However, EVE uses a point and click combat system from what i have been told, where vendetta is a totally "twitch" based flight model. Since the game uses a full physics system that allows for flying backwards, This means that combat has a feel something like a cross between a FPS and a Flight simulator.

The graphics on vendetta are somewhat less detailed than what i have seen of EVE from screenshots and the back of the box at the local game store, however that said with all settings turned way up vendetta still has a very crisp feel to the scenery.

I would guess that there is somewhat more action in vendetta than EVE, however since the combat is based on real skill, not some dice roll modified by a bunch of numbers for your equipment, even a player in a very basic ship does have a chance to surviuve. After the "noob" period where your equipment is very basic, the availibility of rest of the equipment is more based on "what you do" than "what level you are".

The closest thing i have ever found to compare vendetta online's "feel" to is the old single player space games like Elite, X-wing, Wing commander, or Decent Freespace. The gameplay has some similarities to those, but set in a multiplayer universe with more options than "complete these missions".

If you are interested in finding out more, or asking questions of the vendetta testers, I reccomend visiting the following links

http://www.vendetta-online.com/h/news.html   - Vendetta onlines homepage news section. Be sure to check out the various interview links if you havent seen them allready. Also you can sign up for the waiting list for an account and to be notified when the Beta will be open again.

http://www.roguelazer.com/phpbb2/index.php   - A series of forums run by a long time tester of the game.  I reccomend the "green nation chat"

http://gate.starfreeze.com/forum/  - Another set of forums hosted and run by a longtime tester. The "multi-Nation' forum there is the general forum.

so you tell me EVE has not much action? just because you actually can do something else than fighting?
EVE has vast battles for stations, space control and the best PvP there is in an MMORPG. there are over 70 different ships available in EVE, and only 8 of them are pure transport ships... most are built for fighting.
read something about EVE before judging it. you can spend your whole day fighting. PvE or PvP, both is possible and both is possible EVERYWHERE.

EVE has about 10000 players online on one server and 5000 systems with lots of stations to dock. you CAN spend your time mining, trading, building stuff, but only if your corporation provides protection. Best mining is done in low security systems, in which PLAYER-Pirates would kill you at once if you have no cruisers and fregates watching your back.

what you also dont get is, that point and click is actually very useful if you have to travel in such a vast world as EVE is.
a) point & click reduces LAG greatly. you dont need to exchange so much data from server to client - that's the reason why PvP games like EVE and Shadowbane use point & click, because PvP and LAG suckx big time
b) Captain Picard also doesnt have a joystick in his hand while fighting a battle with 4 attacking fregattes. why? because you need your mouse to click on some missile launchers, target disruptors and attack drones. Combat in EVE is like you know it from SciFi. it is NOT diablo. there is lots of tactic. if you have to use so much attention to how and where you fly, you cant implement real space combat. and that's what EVE is and Vendetta not. real vast SPACE in which you can lead a corporation of 1000 employees, mine, trade, research or WAGE WARS.

EVE is the one and only true space scifi MMORPG. and EVE has the best PvP system of all MMORPGs... why do you think EVE is on Rank 1 of all listed MMORPGs here? because it has something for anyone. especially if you want to blow stuff up ;-)

players CAN build stations btw. and soon this feature will be greatly extended. just go to www.eve-online.com and look for SHIVA. it will make a great game absolutely über :)

man, relax, no-one is dissing your game. I was responding to a question about differences between vendetta and EVE. point and click is one control method, twitch is another. In no way was i saying EVE was bad.

You like EVE, thats great, now chill out and go play it instead of flaming a post for no reason. Please re-read what you quoted of mine and you will note that nowhere in it does it say that EVE has no action or that point and click is bad.
