This looks like an awsome feat for MMORPG. It's like Defender meets Massive Multiplayer.

Now if only a game like Ace Combat 4 can be done like that.

I am happy that this game I have been testing has reached the past "soon" :)

Vendetta-bata-tester for over a year

To be honest, right now we don't know for sure. What we've been doing is engine testing. We get a 12-sector world to play around in (as opposed to the final 7000-sector one) and a smattering of ships and they add bits to the engine as they deem them ready to test. If I were to say that there's no content, it'd be like a man locked in a dark room since the day of his birth telling you the sun doesn't exist because he's never seen it. According to the game's developers (who I've been assisting for going on two years now) there's a gigantic universe awaiting, to be released to testers some time this week.

What I can tell you is that it's freedom in space. You fly around gigantic spinning, glowing asteroids to stations delivering cargo, killing bots, and... delivering more cargo. Like I said, we testers are on the brink of a gigantic universe expansion, and with that will come missions and content. I'm confident that these guys know what they're doing, and will turn out a great product.

I've been playing E & B since way back in beta, and now when e&b is closing this fall i've been looking for a new game to play. Ive was in Eve beta and SWG beta, and been playing SWG for a few month now, but i find myself being more and more bored with that game...

Im very angry right now that i didnt find this game 'til now , coz it looks awesome. And i would have loved to beta test it. Me and a few friends from E&B gonna get this one the same day its released (IF we can find it here in Sweden)(saw on Vendetta site that its gonna be released in North America in Aug).

Well, they're gonna be reopening signups for a stress-test in a month or so. Stick around, keep checking the website!

For those that are screenshot starved, here are a couple of slide shows that I made of some of the action before the last reset and the implementation of a more robust faction system and the addition of a mission system. At that time, Vendetta Test was more like "Space-Quake".

What happend? Anyone know why the stress test is not open yet?

First of all I just want to let everyone know that i an not officially linked to guildsoftware or MMORPG.com, However I have been testing the Vendetta Engine for guild for a few years.

The stress test is still planned, The devs seem to be tweaking some of the Code so the game will run as smoothly as possible. Guildsoftware Is a great company, But, like most software developers getting behind schedule does happen. Unlike some companies I've dealt with however, they usually dont get super far behind, Rarely more than a month, And as compensation, most of their updates/releases are exceptionally good, usually containing only minor bugs, and those are often patched the same day since when they do a major release the Devs all tend to be on the game actively fixing things. 

My advice is to continue to watch the vendetta-online website at www.vendetta-online.com , This game is definitely worth waiting for. Anyone who ever played and loved the old Elite games and wished it could be multiplayer NEEDS to check the vendetta page daily.   :)

Yes, the game engine supports joysticks, gamepads and other game controllers. 

You can choose to fly with either a joystick or a mouse (in both cases there are still some keyboard keys you'll have to use for selecting weapons and the like) or fly completely with the keyboard.

The game engine is actually quite versatile, and you can have multiple game controlers active in it at once. this way if you have 2 joysticks you can use one for piloting and still configure the second stick to do other tasks, bind the buttons on it to different controls than the buttons on the first, etc.

Hi, I am currently an active playtester for guildsoftware and to answer your question i will direct you to a recent 2 part  interview that IGN RPG Vault did with the owner of Guildsoftware. (john Bergman) While we dont have everything he discusses in the game at the moment, It SHOULD make it into the final release, with the exceptions of a few things he mentions as future expansions. At present the game doesnt have much in the way of exploration, tho you can concentrate exclusively on trade if you want to. Doing so will leave you dangerously exposed to pirates if you venture out of the area controlled and gaurded by your nation however. A little work on the combat skills is generally a wise idea.
