LOL, amusing headline.  We can only hope.  He's actually been "in space" since around the time of Ultima 8...  That's gotta be some sort of record!   :-)

lol they dont need to be worried about him. They need to be more worried about TR and put more focus on that instead of him.. What a shame... I liked that game till they started the stupid PR crap and started to pull the ingame content they said they were going to do.. Now all of a sudden they came back saying now they are going to implement the squards... Blah little too late.. Im still waiting for them to start releaseing the PAUs... uh hu...

If he wanted to actually promote the game, it would have been far wiser to skip the space flight and sink some of that money into TR.  As it is, nothing is going to help that game without major improvements to it which is way beyond the current teams skills.

So much for requesting that he be left in orbit by "mistake".

Now I'm out 15 cases of good Russian Vodka with nothing to show for it.

Ok, I just want to jump into this thread here:

First of all, the whole Richard going into space thing isn't about promoting TR. He did not go into space to promote the game. His going into space has actually beena  lifelong dream of the man's forever. His dad was an astronaught and he wanted to do it.

Richard made big time money in the gaming business and decided to spend a large chunk of it on this. The promotion is something that wsa done on the side. Why not? it was happening anyway why not take advantage of an opportunity for mainstream coverage?

So, to get it straight, no money was diverted from Tabula Rasa to Richard's flight into space. His going or not going has no berring on the betterment of the game. It's just an interesting story that someone from the gaming industry actually did this.

Maybe if they made Tabula Rasa a MMOFPS it may have succeeded.

This is perfectly summed up by Lewis Black

"Expensive, you bet! But it was the only way she could achieve her life long dream of flying over every single starving person on Earth and yelling 'Hey look at what i'm spending my money on!'"

Change the she to a he and you got Sir Richard.

I met Richard a few years ago at GenCon, good guy, modest, quiet, not at all like the Uwe Boll's and other arrogant prima donna's of the industry.

Basically he's just doing his own thing in his own time because he can, he seems to have risen above trying to please all the narrow minded bigots in gaming and is just living life how he wants, not how people think he should.

The publicity and attention he gets comes from other people following him around, not unlike Richard Branson, and the vast majority of that attention and $$$ gets re-directed toward advancing the various science and education foundations he supports.
