I played this game the last couple of days, I wanted to see it befor it maybe vanishes for ever. I have to say I liked it. Sure I can't judge endgame or lack thereof but I don't realy think this game deserved to fail... There are worse games up and running since ages. One can only hope someone picks up this game.. Would seem realy odd to me if that was it.

This game realy gave me the taste for some scifi.

Anyone have an idea why the hell they couldn't at least release the server tools?

Then join us TR vets, and you TR newbies in starting our NCSoft boycott. 95% of the people I know who played TR are cancelling all their NC subs.

Oh no... to my recollection SOE never shut down a game, did they? With that one move NC has more than trumped anything SOE has ever done to anger the gaming community.

SWG may as well have been a shutdown lol. Apparently they are thinking about shutting down MxO now too, the last dev decided he didnt want to do it anymore.

*edit* just thought i would add, they are both equally as bad in my opinion.

It was visually unappealing, lots of gameplay annoyances and an assortment of bugs, and convoluted crafting and lack of an auction house make the player economy stagnant. WoW is way better than Tabula Rasa. This game was shutdown while all of the other MMORPGs never had to shutdown. Not even SOE wanted to nab it from NCSoft and fix it. Why would you want this game back?

Well MxO was destined to fail. Monolith / Warner Entertainment screwed up so bad with this game. It's not even funny.

Plus the engine is just so aweful that people can't even properly play it when they have the latest hardware.

SOE would have to dig deep into their pockets to fix this game and that's something they never going to do.

Hence, they pulled most devs from Vanguard now too and replaced them with some interms.

So that means about 12 people will be boycotting NCSoft over the mess that was TR

I'll bet they are shivering in their boots for fear that the lost revenue will bankrupt the company

Yeah, City of Heroes/Villains was a horrid game.  Guild wars was so bad it's second only to WoW in popularity, despite 15 months from the last content update, and manages to have among the highest approval ratings on this site.  Lineage II is a ghost town.  Who plays that game?  /sarcasm.

NC Soft killed a game that didn't have 10,000 people playing it the last 6 months.  The only reason they had a bump in numbers the past few months was because they gave it away.  It isn't a good thing that SOE still supports crap like MxO, just because a few idiots still have computers old enough to play it.  it's bad business.  Don't blame NC Soft for acting like a smart business.  They gave Richard Garriott a year, and he failed, and failed well.  If they doubled the content, added a REAL PvP element, and released it similar to GW's format, I might go back to it.

They had a game with great potential that died, not because of NC Soft, but because of the devs and the almighty Richard Garriott ditching the game to pursue his space cadet love.  If you want to do some good, then ban any game that Richard Garriott sneezes at, from here on out.

While it was not the best MMO I’ve played I did enjoyed it . Too bad NC didn’t use the GW sales model for the game to make back the money to develop the game.

GW sales model is not the answer for every game that is failing. People seem not to understand how GW was the right idea at the right time and not the end all be all of MMO sales ideas. It worked for GW and it should work for GW2, but assuming any game could survive and turn a profit off that model is folly.

with some work they could have fixed it.  The core game was there with some great ideas.  NC sucks at supporting flawed games. They flushed the baby out with the bath water. They should have combined servers and shrank the dev team, and then slowly fixed the game. Both EVE and DDO had really rocky starts but are more successful now then when they started.

I think TR was pretty sub par, maybe if they had a good open PvP/control point scheme set up, that could be fleshed out and revitalize the game, but that didn't exist at all.

Personally I think the loss of Auto Assault was a bigger deal. That game had great environments with amazing environmental effects and feel, as well as the fact that there are simply no other car battling games on the market. THAT is a game that should have been done with the guild wars model. (and they should have not used auto targetting, I mean, they already had cone of fire, let us aim!)

The answer's easy enough.   Richard Garriott..a fter launching the game, and then going off for 6 months for space cadet traininga nd time on the ISS, he comes back and bails on the game.

Anybody notice how withiin DAYS of him quitting the company, RGTR announced it was gonna close? Ever notice how in that same time the name went from Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa to simply Tabula Rasa?

This game could have made the company millions but they wouldn't have kept it, because of one man.  Sad too, as it looked like they were developing stuff for it up until closing day..  most of the new content I sadw added was added after the announcement

Much like Earth and Beyond, back in it's day was making EA money, but they scuttled it to devote more resources to Sims Online  (how'd that go for you, EA?)

The difference is TR was never making money and was losing subscriptions before they announced the closing of the game. RG alone is not to blame. The entire game failed right from the start.

I'd happily join the NCSoft boycott, but since TR was the only game by them I played, I don't think I'd make much difference either way.

(a) It's sci-fi. EXTREME rarity.

(b) Awesome, unique combat system (unlike your boring point n click WoW)

1. Yes it was Sci-Fi and a good Sc-Fi MMO is needed. TR was not it.

2. The combat system was better than most MMOs, but that was all it had that made it cool. The quests/missions generally sucked. I never felt like the Bane were a serious threat as an enemy force and the attacks on CPs yet major bases left alone was poorly thought out and made the war feel like a backstory and not the major story in the game it should have been.

3. The game was a failure so calling someone who thinks WOW is better a troll is silly. Almost everyone who played TR quit before the first year was finished. TR simply was not an appealing or well made game overall.

No they're not, SOE puts dead games on life support (that's usually AFTER they royally screw it up), NCSoft are doing a good job with City of Heroes/Villains at the moment. Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault were poorly presented to begin with, I know the TR devs tried their best because I spoke with them often (they came in game and chat nearly every day) but it was far too little too late.

I'm thinking there might be a TR emu one day, one can only hope.
