Reminds me of Legend of Dragoon. Touted as the "FF7 killer", it took a decade to make, but it just wasn't nearly as good as FF7. It was awesome, sure, but it just wasn't FF7 awesome.

Hello POT I am the KETTLE. You are way too funny, yet I do not think you understand why.

No, I don't understand why. Coming back after another 1.5 months to see just how rabid your hatred of this game is, and hilariously, you have posted humpteen more posts on this DEAD GAME forum continuing to bang your drum against TR. Tell me, what percentage of your thousand+ posts are TR hate posts? Hmm? Don't make me go back and count them. I've posted here what, maybe 10-15 times?

TR died because the Koreans had lots of egg on their face from getting ripped off by RG, realized they were going to can the game early on, knew there was no way in hell they would ever recoup their investment in this piece of the American market, and withdrew almost ALL support and marketing. That's it in a nutshell regardless of what other fabrications you seek to create from thin air about it being a bad game. The game was a good game, I've played many. This was simply a corporate boondoggle of being snookered by RG laughing all the way to the bank.

Yeah it was really odd too

RG seemed fine PRIOR to his space jaunt, afterwards he kinda went nuts.

You should be intimately familiar with them, for obvious reasons.

If the game was so good why did it fail so fast?

One, it was rather poorly managed. Two, its staff resources kept getting cut by NCsoft. Three, it had elements that made it fun, but its end game was almost entirely lacking.  Not to mention that RG was splitting his attention between the game and his trip to space.  Over all, I'd like to see it come back and get done properly this time.  But thats very doubtful, given NCsofts past record.

well any game     with a maker that dubs himself lord british and goes on space flights while his game is sucking doesnt seem would do well

tbh  though its a shame because it did look fun i never got to play as it was long dead well before they canned it

Fabrications? Seriously you are amusing, but only because you have no clue. Just because you THINK it was good does not make it so. The obvious lack of population seems to lean towards my opinion that it was a poorly made and poorly run MMO. Of course the fact it got canned in no way shows it was a financial disaster, at least in the dream world you choose to inhabit.

I dont hate TR, I speak truth backed up by actual research. Only rabid fanboys see truth as hatred, that is why you will always love a loser.

And yet you continue to trot out (in post after post after post) pop numbers in a game that was never properly supported by the publisher, not in marketing, not in content, from day one as evidence that the "game was bad." This is completely simplistic analysis that you insist on repeating ad nausea even a year after the game was discontinued. Keep ranting out that 20k number though, one day it may just make your opinion correct. Not today though.

My estimation of you as a "hater" comes from watching your naysaying about TR consume far more than any other poster on this subforum for almost a year and half.

Did TR steal your girlfriend? take the job promotion you wanted? spit in your beer? punk you out in prison? I've felt and expressed less angst over a cheating fiance in the past than you have for over a year over TR.

And no of course because I think it was good doesn't make it so, just 95% likely. I have been wrong in the past, but am not wrong now in claiming that the death or TR was more of a saving face manuever by bilked Koreans that decided never to support the game before it was even released than any statement about the quality of the game. No marketing, no dev budget, no promotion whatsoever. Had NC treated TR as FC treated AOC (a truly BAD game) then TR would be around with a healthy pop. They just knew there was no way to ever get a profitable pop because they got so thoroughly conned by RG.

the thing is one would be likely to lose faith in a product when the guy that made it is going off on space flights instead of dealing with his game honestly it seemed to me that he just made tr in order to fund his space flight and when he finally left off on that flight he said screw you to everybody then comes back and realizes oops i burned some bridges and now what can i do but try to sue the ppl i screwed over

the guy is extremely disillusioned he sees himself as a lord and king and his earlier games popularity didnt help  those games blew his ego way too big

Obviously the angry one here is you. I am sorry my and the majority of people who played TR opinions are of a generally negative tone, but when a game loses subs like TR did each quarter it has nothing to do with advertising or marketing. The people playing quit because your beloved TR was a poor MMO.  I am sorry I have offended the game you love more then anything. You think too much of yourself and your opinion. Sorry to tell you but TR as part of NCSoft had its poor financial record reported quarterly as required and its population was easy to figure out by anyone with basic math skills.

The game was not supported by its own developement team. You live in a dream world where advertising alone makes a game succeed. I am sorry you have such a simplistic view. As for your 95% likely comment, the only thing 95% likely is that you have serious issues with TR. Did RG take you to the prom? Is that why you have this man crush?

Why are people still arguing about a game that has been dead for over a year?

Good question. I enjoyed the game, and hope that some future MMOFPS's adopt some of what made it fun.  But its dead and buried, and knowing NCsoft, they will sit on the IP until hell freezes over.

They'll sit on it longer than that knowing them

My volume of posts about TR versus yours demonstrates quite clearly, who is angry and who is not. As said previously, I checked in here after a month and a half to find you beating a dead horse and offering the same stale analysis you always do.

Do you think the intense marketing efforts of FC after the failed launch of AOC have not affected subs at all? Your statement that promotion and marketing do not affect box sales and subs of a game is absurd.

Moreover, you conveniently ignore the other part of my argument, that it was obvious that NC cut any spending on development and patching to the bone very early on, maybe even pre-launch. Do you think lack of continuing to push out content has nothing to do with box sales and subs?

For example, TR is the only big title MMO I've ever seen released without corporate forums, only a single subjectively moderated sole fansite. Is this standard in the industry? It's plainly obvious that NC pulled the money plug on TR because of sunk costs of paying the Garriotts ridiculous sums of money. After a year of reflection, IMO TR was set up to fail from day one. They couldn't just not release the game, this would make them industry jokes. The more I think about it, that TR was live for a short time was NC saving face. There were likely internal debates as to whether to ever bring it live at all. In addition, there could have been sums due under contract to the Garriotts if the game did not go live that were higher than the expenses of taking it live for awhile and then shutting it down.

And once more with the "population" broken record. No game nor any other product does well in a vacuum of no resources contributed to its success.  NC had already spent way too much, I'm sure heads rolled, and pulled the plug almost from launch.

Hey, keep bashing though! It's fun to come back every couple of months after spending time actually playing the games people debate about here to find you get the same enjoyment... a wait... do you play a necromancer in these games by chance? All becomes clear.

Do you think the intense marketing efforts of FC after the failed launch of AOC have not affected subs at all? Your statement that promotion and marketing do not affect box sales and subs of a game is absurd.

Except I never said it has no effect. I said and quite clearly that advertising alone will not make or break a game. If TR was good word of mouth would have been better. The truth is though TR got a huge amount of face time when RG was preparing for space. It did nothing for the game though. Advertising can effect box sales, but TR did not warrant NCSoft spending more. They already dumped nearly 100 million into it before it got released. That amount should have resulted in a much better product.

Say what you want about AOC, FC advertised before it had issues as well. It was a more anticipated and better run project. TR was poorly run by EVERYONE involved. The devs, RG, his brother and NCSoft are all to blame. Can you blame NCSoft for pulling the plug after seeing what 100 million dollars bought them? That might be the single worst investment to date in an MMO. People say RG is a legend but then try to claim no one knew about TR. How is it a LEGEND creates a game and no one knows? The two things simply do not go together. People seem to argue out of a couple or orifices when they try to make excuses for failure.

The lack of forums was a joke. The group that ran the officially unofficial forums was even worse. TR had many such issues though. But you may call it a broken record, the fact is you can not dispute the population number, nor can advertising explain how TR went from over 40k subs in Q2 that year to roughly 20k three months later. Obviously the people playing decided TR was not worth it either. You do not advertise when your fans and customers tell you what a poor product you have by leaving in droves. If TR had 300k subs when it launched there might have been reason to advertise and try to regain the numbers, but TR never hit 100k in active subs ever.
