TR's combat is fine. It's the lack of depth, content and overall point that makes most people turn away. Actually, TR's combat is one of the best combat systems I've seen in any MMO. The devs just don't know how to make better with what they got.

''Silence is golden and talk is cheap. I''m poor, so make with the discussion.''

Plenty of games can look up to Mass Effect for protips.

Tabula Rasa is however too far below that echelon, I think. It's got no content (hollow bones) and nothing connecting the shattered dreams and failed development aspirations which at one time made up its broken corpse. So if it did look up, its fragile neck would snap.

In fact, TR has never thought to look up since the fog is so thick in suckville that it can't even see where it's currently going, much less see to the future or find inspiration.

E&B, SWG, EVE, AO, TR, EU, GW, PS, RV, CoX

The combat engine is the only in this game that's any good.  If there was actually an immersive universe developed around it TR wouldn't have been half bad.

But what we gots what we gots.

Big Bang happened. and life happened. then you trolls somehow got here?

if TR was pushed back a year or two to add more ways to enjoy the game : more planets , better crafting system, Better ways to PVP and over all a stronger tie with their story and quests (It doesn't feel that you are adding to the war effort and you don't get a feeling of fear when you see the bane warp down from their ships.

If the game was pushed back  it could have been a really great game and since it was Sci fi themed   it wouldn't have to worry that much about the other big games coming out.

But now they are going to be playing catch up, and who knows I loved the Beta but didn't stick around for release. I may go back one day

Priestess of the Church of the Painful Truth :3

Adding PVP was just a desparate plea by the devs to try and attract players... Why would we kill our own people (pvp), when there are huge aliens wanting to wipe us out of existence...? It didnt fit with the theme of the game at all. Now if they had done something like Lotro's monster-play... that would have been fun. I would have loved to played one of those aliens attacking a CP. But no, they had to staple on guild pvp...

Every game does not need pvp. I know that its popular with a good segment of players, but Im sorry, sometimes it just doesnt fit with the game(s).
I liked the combat system... it was the one thing amidst all the general suckage that I actually liked.. besides the Forean girls. I found them oddly cute. I had the most fun sitting on a cliff-side picking off targets several yards away than anything else.

There was no point to the sigils other than to give us some sort of scifi magic-like spells...  Only two or three worlds made me thing more of RFO than anything fun. And the hordes of spawning aliens just got boring after a short while.

The one thing about the general feel about the world I thought was great was the PA announcements in the main base. I loved the MASH feel it had.

The thing with TR is that I never once felt like I was fighting a war to save humanity.  It isn't the combat I had a problem with it, but rather the lack of a pressing need for it.  The game could have been amazing, perhaps if they had revamped the lore and set it on earth instead.  Running urban battles, tension, etc.  Something to make me feel like an actual soldier.  It doesn't help that you can solo the entire game, either.

Combat in TR was imho one of the better or more fun systems I've ever seen.

Now when you get into the advanced classes not working.. lack of content... no real crafting etc etc

Those were the problems.

TR also in my opinion had one of the best foundations.. with very few bugs.. but they never built anything on top of it.  It was very superficial etc etc

Again to me the combat system was a blast... its just that after  a while I wanted .. more.

Then again I've now bought a few more MMO's and beta tested a few.. and didn't even like them as much as I did TR..  Personally skipped Mass Effect because I have been less than impressed with Bioware lately.  Maybe I just don't like games anymore... or they are all crap?

"We already have two operating MMOs. We launched a game called Ultima Online in 1997. It's still got hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Then there's Dark Age of Camelot, we also have a situation where we have well over 100,000 subscribers."

-Frank Gibeau of Electronic Arts.

Does it seem odd that UO has more subscribers than the best RvR game on the market?

"Why follow, when you can lead..."

This all true; I bought the game, spent several hours patching it, and started playing. Needless to say I was vey disappointed; honestly the game just isn't that good, pure and simple. The combat is great for 5 mintues, but gets old really fast. The quest are, well, standard MMO fare (no need to elaborate here), and like someone posted earier, sigils are just sci-fi spells. All-in-all pretty boring and definitely not worth the price of admission ($30 for the box, $15 a month for the game).  I really wanted a sci-fi MMO to work, but this one needs a lot of help. Unfortunately it goes on the shelf with countless others that promised much, but delivered little, and I will most likely never go back to this game.

You''ve been a bad girl Miss Liberty, now go to my room!

Mass Effect is like walk this way and shoot this thing then that one and hardly even get shot at your self.

Getting behind a wall for no reason except that you can do it,

But TR is awesome and is actualy a thinking mans shooter. You take cover and it is actually taken into account, you use Cyber mage type powers and all the guns are different and useful.

But hay if that is your opinion then cool for you.

Nostalgia is bad.

Mass Effect is a great game with an original, fun combat system. Not sure how it could work in an MMO though. Could it? You can freeze the action in ME. How's that going to work?

The problem with ME, and SP games for me in general nowadays, is it all seems a waste of effort. You build a character then it's useless after a few hours. That's SP games after MMOs. I solo most of the time, but I want my characters to live in an evolving, populated universe, not on my hard drive, gathering dust. Anyway, that went a bot off-topic.

I'm very much enjoying Mass Effect, but i truly don't want the type of very limited combat i have with ME to be similair with MMORPG's to be honost. And even tho i really enjoy ME it is a posterchild for the word Linear, which amazes me sometimes on forums when i see people talk about certain MMORPG to be linear. (not this topic, just plenty of other ones)

The Story in ME is what i expect from a SP game, that is why some SP rpg's feel abit Epic when playing them cause all the focus is on YOU and YOU only, but there are so many things that simply will not work with MMORPG, atleast not with current tech, perhaps in a a few years ...maybe....

This is just my opinion:

This game as it is without any major changes is fun. Like I posted yesterday there are really only two minor issues however if the devs wanted to make this a blockbuster MMO, they need to make some major changes.

They should remove the progression system. It has not worked in any MMO I have seen and it will not work in this one. Make an archer class!

They should make a seperate world where a player could play Bane . Leave the exact same classes but the role is reversed for that world and made PvP battlefields for each level range. Players on both sides of the battlefield fight to gain control of the central post. Kills in the PvP area grants Merits and no XP. They should leave NPCs to fight so there is always a battle going like the control points they already have. this is real immersion.
