I thank EA for the lack of innovative games.

I am lucky at the end of the month to have 100$ left all said and done. Yes I could stop eating for a while ..but that would be stupid. My computer is a year old and was concidered upper mid range when it was bought. I could probably upgrade my processor .. I have a pretty solid motherboard .. but see not all of us are tech savy enough to do it ourselves and if you do it wrong it WILL destroy your system. And paying someone to do it will cost you ALOT more then $500. But you miss the point of the thread..  Its a bit odd requirements have .. in less then a year ..gone up almost a gig in processor power, now compair that to prior gen jumps in games and you will see thats nuts. When I got this computer last year I was expecting it to last me at least two years.. as it stands its already essentially obsolete. God I hate people like you who think everyone has the money to spend on a whim to upgrade... even as 'little' an amount as 500$. But its all moot because at least on the topic of this game I have had a number of people who actually played it assure me my system will be able to handle it well enough to enjoy the game without frustration.

Your computer is fine and still considered above average for even the new games.  If you have a 2.2 dual core x64, consider it as at least a 4.4Ghz P4 single core.  The P4 is only 32bit and yours is 64, in addition yours is a dual core which is like running two processors.  (so approximately 4 times the potential power of a 2.2Ghz P4)  Your more than fine.

No warries.

Those reqs really are not bad at all.

I'll agree that many folks are unfortunately naive when it comes to the true wealth distribution in the regions hosting these games' target markets -- which usually equates to western-style industrialized countries at the moment. (Barring a few special exceptions --  yes, China, that means you).

On the flip side, why is it that someone outside the target market segment feels entitled to be included in the game specs?  I mean, I don't go around complaining that Toyota or Hyundai make mid-range cars that I can't afford, as much as I would like to have a nice reliable vehicle with a few luxury features. I just accept that I will be lucky to get a used Geo Metro to get me to work and back.

I realize that a lot of it is just frustration; trust me, I'm very frustrated about being stuck with a crappy car too, so I can empathize. But come on... you're wasting valuable interweb bandwidth and forum reading throughput on this nonsense!

Oh, and finally, a significant reason that you have cheap affordable hardware at all today is because a large number of games push the envelope, and early adopters and others with too much disposable income for their own good manage to fund the initial loss-leading high-end products that tech companies will eventually make cost-efficient to sell in a mainstream market. So really, every time an envelope-pushing game comes out that draws out the snotty rich privileged elite and convinces them to part with a chunk of cash for ridiculous hardware is actually an opportunity for you to celebrate. It means someday soon you'll have a mainstream product that's twice as good and a half the cost of whatever those early-adopters subsidized for you.

In all honesty, is 500 that much to upgrade to a high end system? For 800 I got

Gigabyte AM2 Nvidia 4 Mobo

2g DDR2 (800) memory

ADM X2 6000+ (3.0G DC)

Nivida 8800 GTX 640MB DDR3 Video card.

You heard me, 800 dollars. Thats what? 200 saved a month for 4 months? And now running high end. I really dont think that 800 is that much for a new system. Honestly.

This kind of thinking boggles my mind.  I'm not struggling now, but there was a time in my life when I did, and I fully empathize with people who can't afford to upgrade once a year.  I refuse to upgrade more than once every two or three years on principle.

Just because you are lucky enough to have an extra $200 a month doesn't mean it's normal.  Remember the median personal income in the US is around $30,000.

You can hate me all you want. It took 7 months of saving to come up with that 500 dollars. You see I have enough common sense to know that in 3 years time I was going to have to upgrade my machine. Yes, I had an Athlon 3200+ 1gb ram and a radeon 9800 pro, and now for 500 dollars I upgraded it. You can assume I have money to throw away since that obviously makes you feel justified. I remember your types when I worked retail computers. If you want to complain, complain about all the other game companies who give you very watered down system reqs but lie about what it REALLY takes to play a game with all the eye candy turned on. First game that comes to mind is Oblivion. . System reqs said my old system would run it. Sure it ran it but i looked like dog poo. The second, is World of Warcraft where if you want to raid end game you better have far and beyond the system requirements to be able to support more than 20 players on your screen, oh and yeah no dial-up. I don't think there is a guild that raids end game that would take a person on dial-up. So, don't hate me because TR is posting honest system reqs to make the game look best, run best, and you aren't, as you say, tech savvy enough to know what that really means. I'm being blunt because you take a knee jerk reaction at the system requirements and decide to post that reaction looking for allies and the "I know what you are saying..." replies.

To play TR with almost all the eye candy turned on with a ... lets say 20" wide screen LCD (those are like180 dollars now) 1650x1080 you'll need, minimum,

Athlon X2 4000+(2.1Ghz with 1MB cache or Intel Core2 Duo 6320 (1.86Ghz with 4MB cache) or higher

2GB RAM

Radeon x1950pro or GeForce 7900series or higher

Broadband internet connection

If you have boughten a computer in the last, oh, say 18 months and spent at least 700 dollars or more on it then you got these system specs or darn near it. WIth broadband in the US as cheap at 19.95 a mo. there is no excuse to not have it, unless you're in a rural (insert random farm animal) area that doesn't get any. Then I say suck it up buttercup and get sattellite. Game progression doesn't take a haiatus because you refuse to upgrade.

Oh, and I also am in the beta and know both my old system and new one can play it. The system requirements on that public page are there to give a clear idea of what it takes to play the game without any hiccups. those recommended probably hit the nail on the head much better than the minimum would ever.

(Minimum)
Microsoft Windows XP
2.5Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent
512MB RAM
DVD-ROM
5GB Available HDD Space
ATI Radeon 9600 or NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 series video card with 128MB of VRAM
16-bit sound card
Broadband Internet connection
DirectX 9.0C

(Recommended)
Microsoft Windows Vista/XP
3.5Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent
2GB RAM
DVD-ROM
5GB Available HDD Space
ATI Radeon x1800 or NVIDIA Geforce 7800 series video card
16-bit sound card
Broadband Internet connection
DirectX 9.0C

Not too hard to see why your system would "lag", which actually isn't the issue, your system simply cant handle the game and you need an upgrade if you want to enjoy modern mmo titles.

Yeah I know, I'm going to try it anyway......

I got a Dell, and the fastest CPU upgrade I can get is like a 2.8 P4, anything other than that I'd have to get a new one....chances are I'll wait around for AoC on 360, consoles are more my style......

Don't get me wrong, still way better to have it there when u want it, but being broke sucks haha.

The minimum sys reqs are a pent 4, .5 gig of ram, 128 Vid, and 4 gigs HD. I had this system 4 1/2 years ago. I am not being snarky, buit you can buy a laptop with better than these specs for $400 right now. Not that you should, but you could. The Reqs on this game are actually quite low.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.
