  • Elemental Invasion

    Events leading up to the release of the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm expansion are underway. "Cataclysmic" events are beginning to take place with earthquakes, nefarious Twilight's Hammer agents showing up in major cities and now elemental spirits are making their presence known around Azeroth.

  • Explorer's League Debuts

    As part of the ongoing release of new features and information on the World of Warcraft community site, a blog called "The Explorer's League" has launched. The blog tracks posts from the official World of Warcraft forums that are of intense interest to the community. Included in the inaugural post are links to general Cataclysm topics, posts about classes, content changes, Blizzcon and regional match-making. Check it out!

  • Battle.Net Dial-In Authenticator

    The Blizzard Entertainment development team has introduced another tool for players to prohibit unauthorized access to one's account. Called the "Dial-In Authenticator", it is not a physical USB device or a mobile phone application. Rather, it is a free opt-in service that monitors accounts. If an potentially unauthorized attempt is made to log into a player's account, a player is asked to provide more information via an 800 number.

  • No More Soulstone Spamming

    Blizzard has announced a change to the way combat resurrections will be handled once World of Warcraft: Cataclysm goes live in December. Resurrections will be one form of resurrection per combat in a 10-man raid, three forms per combat in a 25-man boss raid.

  • New Community Site Preview

    The new World of Warcraft Community Portal is now up for players and fans to preview. The final deployment of the portal will coincide with the arrival of the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm expansion in early December.

  • Rated Battlegrounds FAQ

    World of Warcraft's Cory Stockton has posted a short but effective FAQ about the 'rated battlegrounds' coming with the Cataclysm expansion next month. Pardo indicated that the topic had generated confusion and hoped that the FAQ would help alleviate it. The FAQ covers the rewards gained for competing in the rated battlegrounds, as well as the requirements for entering.

  • Cataclysm Digital Preorders

    Blizzard has announced that it is now accepting digital preorders for the World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm. Purchasing the digital version of Cataclysm will authorize players to being exploring the game the minute servers go live at 12:01 a.m. on December 7, 2010.

  • Deathwing is Coming....For You

    In an official post on the World of Warcraft forums, players are warned that Deathwing will not be a distant, instanced adversary, but will rather be one that is actively seeking to destroy the inhabitants of Azeroth. Deathwing will randomly choose areas of Azeroth on which to vent his fury and will keep doing so until his 'reign of terror is brought to an end'.

  • New Community Site Coming

    Blizzard devs have announced that the landscape of Azeroth isn't the only 'Cataclysm'ic change coming. A new community site for World of Warcraft will be launching soon that will resemble the current Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty site. Included in the change will be a new forum system. For approximately two weeks after the new site's launch, both sets of forums will remain open. After two weeks, all World of Warcraft forums will be contained on the new site.

  • The New Barrens

    Blizzard recently updated all World of Warcraft servers with the 4.0.1 patch that lays the groundwork for the upcoming Cataclysm expansion. The Barrens, long a tedious journey for Horde members, has been updated and altered in a dramatic way.   • Cataclysm Log In Screen

    During last weekend's Blizzcon in Anaheim, California, the World of Warcraft team unveiled the new log in screen that will go live when Cataclysm debuts on December 7th. The screen features Deathwing lurking over the top of castle ramparts. Check out the video released by Blizzard showing off the new look.
