Blizzard confirms World of Warcraft Expansion: Cataclysm at BlizzCon!

Some quick facts:

  • The Horde will be getting the Goblin Race and the Alliance will have the Worgen on their side.
  • There is a new Profession: Archeology.
  • The level cap will be raised to 85 and the old world of Azeroth will be getting a face lift of destruction.
  • Cataclysm is scheduled for release sometime in 2010 as mentioned by CEO Mike Morheim.

Oops, looks like the information was "accidentally" leaked by that MMO-Champion thing a while back. Looks like Blizzard really, really tried to keep it a big secret, but they couldn't. Oh well.

The thing that caught my eye was...

Level Cap Increased to 85
Earn new abilities, tap into new talents, and progress through the path system, a new way for players to improve characters.

Unless I have missed my guess the path system will be something like EQs Alternate Advancement system. I.E. A reason to keep getting XP forever.

This would be huge for me as I really need something at end game beyond endless raiding, and as WoW has destroyed PvP for me. (I hate arenas and all Honor gear requires arena ranking) This would give me something to do with my 80s.

Granted, I am pure guessing about this. It could be as lame as giving us a new type of point for 81-85 that we spend on a new tree....

Damn it. I'm almost for sure going to get back into WoW now, just to see the changes that take place. Plus, I've always wanted to play a goblin.

It should be interesting to hear the Goblin jokes. On the flip side I have a feeling the Worgans jokes will be about as stale as most of the other alliance races. (Again this is based on NO facts, just my own disturbed mind)

Looks like the AQ chain is being broken or removed, if Azshara is getting redone to be a goblin zone...I will miss Azuregos :(

Interesting, but... have they even finished Wrath of the Lich King yet.

Is this a ploy to prevent the death of Arthas?  (dun dun DUUUUUUUUN)

If killing Arthas (i.e. the poster child of Warcraft lore) didn't hail the end of Warcraft, than slaying Deathwing certainly does.

;)

Hmm...I think you need to revisit your lore.

1) Cataclysm isn't scheduled for release until 2010 (probably in November to catch Christmas Shoppers)

2) Sarageras is the 'poster child'; seeing as he IS the leader of the Burning Legion

hmm i think it's going to be sooner then November 2010. One of the devs at blizzcon said that at BlizzCon 2010, people would be complaining about overpowered Goblin Rogues :)

Perhaps, but they seem to like to release expansions late in the year; around Christmas Time.
