I really miss Vanilla WoW sooo bad. I never really played a Priest, Druid or Mage past level 10. I would love to go back in time and play the great nostalgia game. A little over a year ago and some time away, my account got hacked. I called Blizzard thinking is would be easy to get things straitened out on their end. But it was not as easy as a phone call. I had to jump through hoops proving who I am, and I pile of other crap that I can't remember. Seeing how the game had changed from when I enjoyed it so much, I found that I did not feel like doing all the work on my end when I did nothing wrong. So I never played again. With playing most every popular mmo on the list, and doing the SWTOR Bata I found the Voice acting was just a silly feature taking more away from the community along with everything on easy mode of what WoW had done to kill a good mmo. Yet SWTOR did not even go live yet !....MMO's are getting to be horrible, based on solo play, easy mode, and instant gradifacation....I need some time off.
So I start checking into some off line games, and what I found startled me :
Warcraft 3....I played Warcraft but not Warcraft 3. I had no idea that 3 was a classic too. It has four races Humans, Orcs, Elfs and Undead, you get to play each race as a campaign. You can have up to three hero's, with deep rich companion type Army's that could tank, heal, cast and dps. Each race played totally different, wayyy different. Yet all the lore of Vanilla WoW was their. I spent two hours watching game play videos and cinematic lore's....It took me back to my vanilla WoW days. I only had little knowledge that WoW was based off Warcraft 3 lore. This blew me away deeply. The game was released back in 2002 but I watched a narrative guy playing in 2009, and he tells how the game could rival any game out today. The graphics are one of the first 3d games ever made, and it looks somewhat out dated, but I'm in it for game play. - So has anyone ever played Warcraft 3 ? - Do you find a lot of similarities to WoW in Warcraft 3 ? - Would you recommend it if you have mmo burnout ? |

Originally posted by page - yes, played a lot, amazing game, still owns... - WoW time is after the events in warcraft 3, but they fucked up the lore in WoW just to give "new" amazing enemies, since burning legion (IMHO) - you don't need a burnout to play warcraft 3 lol, I have no idea how you never knew about it.... |

i've played it a lot too. the most time i've played DOTA's (template for League of Legends). i guess it was not one of the first 3D games because quake and unreal were 3D and have been older (if im not wrong). |

Originally posted by blutm8 No, you're right. 3dfx released their first dedicated 3d graphics card in 1997 (possible late 1996) and in the period following that we had Unreal, Quake 2 (Quake 1 actually came out even earlier,) DF2: Jedi Knight, Sin, the original Aliens v. Predator. It wasn't just FPS games, Total Annihilation beat WC3 to the first 3D RTS crown five years prior to WC3 being released. On consoles the Final Fantasy series was on it's third 3D game of the series by the time WC3 appeared. That said, WC3 was fantastic. A really awesome game. It just wasn't a graphical pinoeer at all, 3D was pretty much standard by this point.

Warcraft 3 was really a good game, yes. And it was a prelude to World of Warcraft so you telling me you played WoW without even knowing of Warcraft 3 is... incredible! I'm really happy you found it! There is actually a "WoW lite" part in Warcraft 3 in the Expansion. Check out the orc campaign there for a very different experience .... and the first canon appeareance of the Pandarens. I personally think that Warcraft 3 is together with Diablo (1) Blizzards masterpiece. Lead designer Jeff Strain (he works on a zombie MMO right now) is one of the best programmers there are. And if you tire of the solocampaign you could download DOTA as well. You should be able to find a bundle really cheap, it is worth it and in my personal opinion a better game than Wow (don't flame me for that, taste just differs). It is one of the games you must have played. Another game from the same year that is fun and worth the time to play is Biowares Neverwinter nights if you havn't tried it. It probably have more free downloadable content than any game and is a great single player and small group game. But just buy WC3, it might be somewhat old today but fun is fun. :) |

Vanilla WoW was great, esp as it was "new" and fresh. But, it took forever to level, and waiting till 40 for a mount you couldn't afford, well, rose tinted glasses and all that. {however, is has gone too far the other way now, too easy these days, lol} WC3 was genius. One of my first great PC experiences [I was late to the PC]. The gameplay was king, great story for an RTS, the expansion was uber too, and damn hard in places. And then bringing out WoW, well at the time it really was such an awesome thrill to see that universe expanded. My closest game I could suggest to WC3, esp at that time would be Age of Mythology {part of the Empires series, but a spin off}. If you can track down or copy, or dl maybe, I really urge you to try. Its a RTS, with a great story around it, 3 factions to play, and with a freat fantasy element, and has an expansion too! [But not quite as good as the Frozen Throne was for WC3]. As for Neverwinter Nights, another classic, this is a pure RPG, so not like the WC3 RTS, but with shared elements. Its still a great game, with a ton of mods too if your into that, and you can even build and design your own levels, or dl, buy extra ones. Its still one of my all time faves, and have played it, and the official expansions [so worth getting esp Hordes of the Underdark, with Epic and prestige classes!]. The sequel never really did it for me, and can't quite put my finger on why...{maybe the curse of Obsidian!} As for the Great Diablo 1+2 (and again the expansion is a must), if you want more of the same, then try Dundeon Siege, not exactly the same, but shares many elements. Again, the sequels and expansions are worth a look, but 3 is, meh, not really DS at all. However, another one to look at is Torchlight, an amazing, fun, modern take on Diablo, that will keep you going until Diablo 3. Wow, this whole post has taken me back to a golden era nearly a decade ago that has not been surpassed in my mind. Thanks!!
Too many alts!! |

Yes and I preferred undead. Necromancers are a class that should have been in WOW lol. But trolls with imbued spears always worked out well. |
