I played am ally hunter on the eu deathwing server . I was ill one afternoon so didn't feel like doing much in game so I kept sending my pig Porksword into Tarren mill to gank low level hordes . Eventually someone logged on with an allie alt and warned me to stop so I did it all the more .Eventually he came back with a bunch of mates and I legged it back to southshore and stood there taunting them while a few guildies joined me . The whole thing esculated from there on in and it ended up with around 300 people in wow massive battle which lasted for hours . The bones of the fallen were everywhere and the lag was something else but it was a huge amount of fun as well . What can I say my pig was a trouble-maker lol . Hes recently been reserected in Rift . Vanilla WoW was the best time I've had in mmos. I doubt I'll get that feeling again but I've really enjoyed this year in Telara . Warcraft was such a great game back then . I miss Warcraft but the game I enjoyed doesn't exist anymore I know games have to evolve but sometimes evolutions not always for the best . Just ask the duck billed platypus ( or the panda for that matter lol ) . I've always said I would return to WoW if they introduce Vanilla servers but I don't think that will ever happen . Those of us that played in those first couple of years ( and to some extent in the first year of the Burning Crusade ) saw the best of what Blizzard are capable of . Its a shame Blizzard didn't maintain the quality ( and difficulty ) of the early days . I think had they done so the game would have maintained a huge player base for decades to come . But all I forsee for it now is decline on a massive scale in the next year or two . Beyond that Blizzard reputation has been badly damaged in the eyes of many gamers and its very difficult to see how they will ever regain it . They got fat and lazy on thier success and thought they could put out any old content and the fans would lap it up . I think they are about to find out they were wrong . Warcraft I still believe can slow its decline but they are going to have to go through the disaster looming on the horizon like and asteroid heading towards earth that is MOP . Heads will roll after that and maybe new blood will take over and in a few years time WoW will become something interesting again . It has peaked now that pretty much a given but fans needn't worry too much it will survive for years to come but with falling numbers of people . I think eventually Blizzard will come up with some kind of sequal game and probably before its playerbase gets too low because thatst the wisest cause of action to take . They'll most likly close down WoW at the same time they release WoW 2 . Hell I might even play it in that last month for nostalgias sake but I can't see myself investing in a new Blizzard mmo . I just don't turst them anymore . |

Surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, but remember when more than 1/2 the overworld quests were elite mobs and most required a small/full group to complete. Adventuring was dangerous and couldn't be done solo everywhere, thus you'd see small groups of friends and aquaintances running around everywhere together.
Also the .5 set of armor quests, and the ridiculous requirements to earn each piece. I remember one part of mine required that I go to Dire Maul, and I had to get 60 or was it 75 of the Beads from the Ogers outside the instance. Ended up having to kill over 600 of them to get all the drops, plus is was at least 150g as well to get one piece of 8. {note to the non-veterans: 150g was like a fortune back then!}
Oh oh oh, raiding whats his face in Andorhal in Western Plaguelands. I do believe there were some 4-5 different quests to kill him and each quest was picked up in a series from each, forcing you to kill him again and again. And it wasn't easy either...this was one of the hardest world mobs to kill back in Vanilla, at least from what I recall and if he wasn't being camped by hordes of people, it was equally tough to find people that could kill him.
Anyway... |

1_ Yea, Southshore - Tarren Mill battle was epic.
Even it didn't last long before bg came out and even we were 1 horde for 10 ally, it was still fun
2_ When epic(purple) stuffs meant something.

i don`t know if that was at Vanilla or BC.
But i used to like the class quests, especially the Druid`s quests. Those quests were awsome, the one for the aquatic form ! kinda tricky one to do... i had to walk forever to get where i should. We had to go to that hidden place in the mountains (don't recall the name). it's a shame they trashed out all those interesting things... |

I loved the 40 man raids back then, as they where challenging, but i hated how they where the only real endgame option available back then. Currently i am a super hero in DCUO. |

Kind of depressing look back at some of this. It shows how the genre has progressed though. Could you imagine them trying to launch Vanilla WoW these days...all the hate that it would receive from people? I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again? Hanging out at the WSG portal all night fighting alliance(killing as many outside as inside WSG) back when BG's was server only and you could actually have a reputation. Getting High Warlord was a major achievment. 7+ hour AV's FTW no zerging. 5 capping alliance in AB and then reque right back up and get in since they had wait times and horde didnt. Crossroads and Tarren Mill PVP...Epic Horde only Shamans. No blood elves. The list can just go on and on, I am glad I had a chance to play it back then. :)
Definintaly good times.
Blizzard would make a killing if they opened some Classic only ruleset servers. |
