Ok, ok, hear me out. I know the topic of player housing has basically been condemned in these forums, and frankly, I don't blame the executioners. The reason inns were made in the game is so that players would have a place to go back to, refresh, get supplies, strategise in, and have a convenient, easily-accessible place to go to for quitting time. This isn't runescape.

But Guild Halls...now that's another idea. It's always nice to use Guild Chat to communicate with your guildies, but what about a place where they could all come together for meetings, special occassions, basic chatting, training...

Here's the concept. It is largely based on some of the new Cataclysm Guild Ideas.

IDEA: Guild Hall

INFO: A central gathering place which a whole guild has access to. This place can be used for training, gathering, hanging out, raid meetings, or miscellaneous fun. Each guild has an instanced guild hall, and only a max of 10 or so "outsiders" can be invited into the guild hall at a time. Each guild's instance is accessible through the "Constructimage", a friendly NPC near the guild master who teleports players to their designated guild's hall. (Or outsiders if they are invited by the guild who owns the hall)

PROGRESSION: Like a guild bank, certain features can be added to the guild hall by the leader (And only the leader) spending money to purchase Renovations. Initally all guilds would start with the basic, single huge room, as a Guild Hall, and decor/wallpaper/decoration designs would be selected by the guild leader. Certain features that could be added through renovations would be: Additional rooms, specific furniture/decorations, a private alchemy lab for guild use, a runeforge, a guild bank, and additional "Guildstones" allowing one to teleport to the Guild Hall?

Tell me what you think.

Ah, another quick addition to make it a bit more sensible.

IMPLEMENTATION: Renovations are purchased by ONLY THE GUILD LEADER from the Constructimage. Once an addition is selected by the Guild Leader, a process of confirmation (see below) begins, and when complete, the Constructimage will teleport to the Guild Hall, and "begin construction". Depending on how elaborate the new additions are, the construction will take anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of days at a time. During the construction, all guild members cannot enter their Hall. The only message they will get if they talk  to the Constructimage in the major city is how much of the work is finished.

(eg. "Your Guild Hall is currently under construction. The [ Name of Upgrade ] Renovation takes --- hours to complete.

Construction is currently --% complete." etc.

Once Renovation is complete, all Guild members will get a letter in their mailbox from the Constructimage telling them that they can now enter their Guild Hall again.

CONFIRMATION PROCESS: This feature is added so that untrustworthy Guild Leaders cannot spend all the money on Renovations and Upgrades that only he wants. There are 3 Security Options. The Security Options are selected in a method similar to the Majority Rules Option.

1. Majority Rules- Over 1 day, all Guild Members are sent an in-game message asking whether they wish to consent to the Renovation. The guild leader can attach a side-note to this message detailing why he/she wants the Renovation, and how much it costs. After 24 hours is up, the Guild Leader is sent a message detailing how many people accepted and refused. If the majority of the people online during the 24 hours  voted favourably, the Confirmation is finished and the Guild Leader is set to give the all-clear to the Constructimage. If the majority refused, then the Guild Leader is denied access to the Renovation.

2. Budget- Each month, the Guild Leader sends a message to the Guild proposing a certain amount of money he can withdraw from the Guild Bank to spend on renovations that month. There is a 24-48 hour voting process. If the guild agrees on the amount, that is the Guild Leader's renovation budget. If they refuse, then the Guild Leader will need to try a different amount. If it is a tie, then the process is redone until a suitable amount is agreed on.

3. Master Control- The Guild Leader has total, unequalled control over all renovation spendings. While the Guild is notified that changes have been made, they have no opportunity to vote for or against the Renovation. This option is recommended only for Guilds that know their Leader to be completely trustworthy.

DETAILED RENOVATION IDEAS:

1. Alchemy Lab: A private Alchemy Lab is set up in the Hall, which the whole Guild can use.

2. New Room: A new room is constructed in the Hall. The Guild Leader can choose where the room will be.

3. Runeforge: A Runeforge is constructed in the Guild Hall for use by its Death Knight members.

4. Decorations: eg. Furniture, Maps, wallpaper, doors, misc.

5. Meeting Room: A private room which only certain ranks can enter. Used for organising raids, chatting, or burning time. Can be edited by Guild Leader so that only the highest ranking members can enter, hence, it can be used as something of a VIP lounge.

6. Notice board: ...The name really says it all.

7. Private bank booth: A small bank booth within the Guild Hall

8. Soul Vault: An upgrade to the Hearthstone. Once used, the Soul Vault allows you to choose from two options when using your hearthstone: a) Go to your normal home or b) Go to Guild Hall. These two options share cooldown.

9. Compendium: A special codex which shows basic tactics, lore and notes on Bosses that guild members have encountered. Members can add noted to Compendium showing their opinions and tactics.

10. Portal Chamber: Most expensive option. A portal chamber is constructed in the Guild Hall. This chamber can have up to 5 portals in it, each of which can access a single city. A large fund is subtracted to build the room. Each portal costs a certain amount to build, and like the "purchase extra bag slots" system in the bank, the price of every other portal increases every time. Once selected, the only way to change where a portal goes is to destroy it and purchase a new one.

Please tell me what you think.

Do you think Guild Halls would be a good idea?

Yes
No
Only if it had some of the features listed in the thread

You mean like most games including Guildwars have had for years? GW had it for 5 years.

EQ2 does it best so far however, with the possibly exception of AoCs guild cities.

Well, yes it is not a bad idea but it sure ain't new. Neither is personal housing, EQ2 and many other games have that too...

I am actually surprised that Wow didn't add this years ago.
