This. Also the population. With a population that large you always could find someone to run an instance with (depending on your server of course) and you always met some interesting people.

my favourite thing about wow, i have to say, is the cancel account feature.

If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.

I like that all the retards flock there and stay out of all the good games.

(Not to say that everyone who plays is retarded - but a good majority)

WOW, i wouldnt say its my favourite game, but i like it, its fun, and that pretty much sums up 100 percent the reason to play a game, when i need a break from EVE, then WOW is the game, maybe i've been lucky but i find the community there is pretty good, there are always a few idiots, but you find them everywhere, in any game. favourite thing about WOW, is that no matter what time it is, or what level you are, you can find a group and have fun adventuring...

I like the fluid animations, and responsive controls. There was always a good sense of your character doing exactly as instructed, and smooth correction for the inevitable desync problems. There are other things I liked, or didn't hate, but those two are the only things I'd like to see all other MMOs "copy" from WoW.

Currently playing Mortal Online (beta) and Dawntide (beta). If those two don't work out for me, I'll probably resub to EVE Online or Anarchy Online. Favorite sub-genre is ...anything open-ended and non-linear, really. Usually sandbox because of those criteria, but doesn't have to be.

Shit........ Sorry dude.

As for the game I play I've officially joined the "Hate all MMOs except Eve online" fanclub.

Favorite genre would be Sci-fi sandbox I guess.

Edit: It's pissing me off that I can't answer your question. Its just WoW is a totally different game now then it was during Pre BC. Everything I enjoyed in WoW has been altered and made worse (for me).

Almost feels like Blizzard pulled a NGE on me.

Maybe a little off from what you are looking for OP...

But honestly, POSTS like this are priceless. It 's amazing and humerus to see how bent someone can be about a "game".

I absolutely HATE Liver, but have no issue with those that like it......

There is a lot to love in WoW. I enjoy the size of the world and the fact that there are so many things to do. The overall graphics style is attractive and functional and doesn't get in the way of actually playing the game. I very much loved the early 40 man raids and the feeling of being part of big team when we would raid MC.

I loved how Blizzard was and is constantly changing the game even though I hated some of the results. The introduction of smaller 10man and 25 dungeons killed a lot of guilds but the instances themselves were a lot of fun. The constant introduction of new armor, mounts and pets kept your interest up but it also was a bit disheartening to see all your old stuff gather dust of get disenchanted.

I think what most people hate about WoW is that it isn't the game that they first started playing but if Blizzard hadn't made any changes it would be stale and boring by now.

But, my most favorite thing about WoW is its humour. There are a lot of visual japes, commentaries, puns and insider humour. The game does not take it self so seriously that it kills the fun.

"Pre-BC"...sigh, do you people even know what this means or you just copy each other like every WoW hater on this forum? Do you even know how many great features BC brought? Do you even know what a large part of the game was very frustrating(no, not hard, just annoying) in vanilla, how many bugs it had?
BC was harder than vanilla in all aspects, at least in BC raids you didn't have to carry 10 retards that would cast an ability every 15 secons because they were staring at the screen and had no idea what to do. All 25 players had to know what they are doing in BC raids(and you can look at BC boss mechanics for yourself if you don't trust me).
Indeed WOTLK is far more casual, but who cares? Skilled PvPers and PvErs will still have access to the best epics, titles, mounts and they will be well known on the server compared to those people who wipe in heroics.

Bleh, your rewards are shallow and material. Your boss fights are difficult only for the sake of being difficult. Some people don't like to jump through hoops every 10 seconds just to win a fight. I like the big old mindless raids better because they were more about being social than being an elite action player. BC can suck a fart out of my ass.

Hmm, and what rewards you'd expect? Have your name written on a structure with a huge font: "CONTROLLED BY PALEBANE"? That's just as e-peenish as titles, uber gear and ladders. And move? Yeah, on some bosses, but one of the hardest bosses, M'uru, was more like tank-and-spank with adds that tested your reaction timers more than bunny hopping around so it isn't everything about jumping.
And social? You'd be amazed how it actually was, when officers were raging because there aren't enough people and some people said they come to <X> raid and they didn't come at all. Then when they'd come online everyone started raging on them and everything was pretty chaotic. Just like the fabled epic Tarren Mill Southshore battles which were funny for max 1 hour, then people would get bored, some of them would hearthstone, some rogues would just camp the graveyards and corpses, etc.
If only, Vanilla was as cool as people on this forum are trying to say...
And Kyleran, that's as much as you can do with WoW's model...you can't really start changing WoW into something else that was designed and planned to be.

Sorry to pick up this obvious off topic post in this thread but...

Seriously though dude, just because you had a crap guild with a-holes running it and people who didn't want to log in to raid as a result of it, doesn't mean everyone else in vanilla WoW had the same problems as you. Even your rendition of world PvP is lame at best, sounds like all you ever got into was the SS/TM zerg fest of noobs, there was so much more than that and I for one am sorry you missed out on it.

As for your initial rant on the 'improvements' that came out in BC, well to tell you the truth it was the 'improvements' that caused most to not like it. Vanilla WoW for most of us was about playing the game and knowing we achieved what we did. When BC came out it brought with it the e-peen stroking that has become the new WoW. Now its not that you did it, its how many titles do you have, or vanity mounts, or vanity pets, or achievements you can show off. No, vanilla WoW was about playing WoW, and post BC is about showing off your proof of 'leet skillz'.

Anyway, I again apologize for responding off topic to the off topic post in this thread. I know, I shouldn't have bitten on the troll food, but ya know, someone had to.

(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)

Definatly the part where u get to bind ur skills at ur mouse, some ctrl + mouse, shift + mouse etc etc it's awesome. And the part where u get to kill noobs in less then 10 seconds in bg's

Diablo best concept ever

Favorite thing about WoW?

Well, that would have to be that it is WoW.

Its not the hardest game, doesnt have the best of anything feature/content wise and frankly its a game I really dont like all that much.

But when the mood hits and I am bored enough to resub again, I can easily get back into the game without any problems. There is no re-learning curve, no need to study up on what to do since the last time I played. Its like riding a bike again after 5 years. You get on, maybe wobble for a second and then you are riding down the street yelling "Look ma! No hands!"

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Hrmm - the most favorite thing about WoW.

I like that WoW brought mmo's into the mainstream spotlight. Back in the day of everquest - if you talked about playing EQ - hardly anyone knew what you were talking about - and if they played it - chances are they wouldn't like it at first.

WoW on the other hand - you get a friend to play it - there is a good 50% chance they are going to like it the first go.

Correction; back in the day, if you talked about playing EQ, people thought you were a f*cking loser and mocked you, unless you were in the company of other 'hardcore' gamer friends.  So being an MMO gamer became something of a dirty little secret.  WoW made MMOs socially acceptable...sorta.

My favorite class the Warrior is not a weak suck tool because of moron devs like in EQ1. EQ1 wholly screwed Warriors over and WoW got them right. WoW is the first game to do it.

If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)

Achievements (a way to reward "pointless" things that I do enjoy and don't expect gear out of it) and battlegrounds (the FPS competitor inside me loves this theorically balanced PvP with objectives), currently have EVE and Aion active subscriptions and my favorite MMORPG sub-genre is Sandbox and its endless possibilities of creating a virtual massive world.

Don't really have a favorite MMO, while I also don't have a "most hated" MMO, actually what is the point of hating a game?

My post was totally my opinion and said nothing of the people that played and enjoyed WoW.

As for being "bent" over a videogame. You do realize mmos are hobbies right? just like reading books or painting models or collecting stuff. Obviously its going to matter to people. A person can spend more time over a lifetime with a hobby than any other activity besides sleep. So yeah its worth getting excited or pissed over.

All old wargamers/ fantasy gamers know what I speak off:

16 pages of rules for The Russian Campaign, 64 pages of rules of Third Reich, 128 pages of some XXX that wrote a British miniatures war game. 300 Pages of Advanced Squal Leader and 5 books from Ad&D and 10 Army books for the Warhammer miniatures TT game.

And the rest of the 500 games, stocked in my attic.

After having searched for 24 years in video games, 32 years in miniatures and  34 years in board wargames/fantasy P&P, I found the holy grail of what makes a game thick to me.

ALL IN. No hastle, just play and have fun withhout looking back.

Seriously, the only thing that lacks in Wow for me is an historical background (as I am really into military history), but from a fantasy standpoint, it is "all in".

While I agree the fantasy setting is well-made. I think the lore is shot. It's terrible now, ever since The Burning Crusade the lore has gone downhill. I really loved the lore from WC2 - Pre-BC.

"Those who fight and run away live to fight another day."

My favorite thing about WoW ended when BC launched.

I had just finished a 4 month long enduring battle, putting sweat and blood into WoW PvP, to make Rank 14 on my Troll Warrior.

A week later i'm told I am to prepare for a tour of duty to Iraq. 1 year.

I return after a year long deployment only to find the Burning Crusade launched 2 months ago.

I had Rank 14 for roughly 3 weeks before I left. 3 weeks to enjoy my victory over the masses. Then I get slapped in the face. Every expansion is a slap to the face. It's like telling everyone, "Good job, thanks for your time, money, energy.... too bad it didn't mean anything."

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't mind an MMO that had an ending. Give me a game large enough to sedate my hunger for 3-5 years, then make a new game, please. Don't just add more crap and ruin a good game.

I would like to comment more but I am about to leave work. Don't get me wrong, I love MMORPG's, I love(ed) WoW at one time, I love this community, I am just tired of wasting my time.

Favorite thing(s) about WOW:

1.  Fluid animations.

2.  Not too many classes (WOW covers the basics without going overboard with tons of "mirror" classes like EQ2 did, or DAOC)

3.  Resettable talent points.  Although, I disliked the dual-speccing that came later.

4.  Auction House.

5.  Racial starting areas.

6.  NO INSTANCED TUTORIAL.  YAY!

7.  Initial simple quests (kill X, collect Y).  Keep it simple, and in the "here and now".  (I have no use for contrived storyline quests.)

Current MMO that I play?  Just quit WOW, I think.  Maybe for good.  Never loved the game, but played it because of its polish.  However, I have been through the world too many times and nothing feels new.  And I am not a raider, nor a PVP'er.

Favorite genre or sub-genre of MMO?  Traditional fantasy (i.e. Tolkien or Howard) PVE sandbox MMO style.  Just give me my 1st level Barbarian Warrior, throw me in a starting area, give me a crude map, and let me venture out to explore the mysteries and dangers of the world.  (EQ1 did this best, IMO.  Vanguard failed, but was on the right track).

Gosh, I played all those games back in the day.  I do agree that polished rule mechanics ought to progress to some generic standard, so that when you play a game, be it MMO, strategy, RPG, flight sim, the only thing you should have to learn is the new scenario or map you find yourself in.

Hopefully, game design will get there one day.
