I was wondering, will cataclysm include graphical updates?

When approx will it be released? 

Can I save a character I deleted possibly over a year ago?

 No ETA, but you can guess a year to a year and a half. Doubt you can save a character you deleted over a year ago, but you could try and say you got hacked and just resubbed and it was gone If its worth that much to ya. Who knows, maybe they woudl do something.

Yes as with all expansions there wil be gfx improvments, notibly we get proper water effects on cataclysm, plus the old world is getting a make over to the quality seen on Wotlk.

When approx will it be released? 

2010 .. most are guessing summer as the final patch for wrath will be out by the end of the year, doubt blizzard will let us go a year with no content patches.

Most times Yes if you ticken a GM in game.

If by 'save' you mean 'character restore' the answer is yes. GMs won't tell you that you can or cannot necessarily (mileage may vary), but I've restored a toon that was a year and a half old at the time of restore.

Anything involved with character modification (gear restore/ money restore/ character restore etc) is very hush-hush. GMs will inform you that you have a 'limited number' of restores, but as long as you don't abuse it I've seen every request I've made go through.

Part of me wants to get back in now, but I guess I should wait. Azeroth should be pretty hectic come cataclysm. Also I have a WOTLK account right, but I've lost box activation code, etc etc (Account has been considerably dormant). Will I need to get box again, or can I just download it from somewhere? Also as a returning player, what best way to get back in game, are there offers to be taken advantage of? 

actually, Blizz made it clear that they are not officially obliged to get your gears/items back.

However they do get the job done if they found you got hacked.

I just hope you are lucky.

You can download the client(s) from the wow accounts page - if you can remember your account login and password.

 Blizzard won't let people sit on icecrown citadel more than 5 months. Once the new raid comes out look for the expansion to follow in under a half a year.

The secret limit is three restorations per account but I would call two stretching it. One problem though to consider if someone recycled the toons name on the server it may be gone for good idk.

 

I've gotten more than 3 restorations. Just petition it, chances are they will restore it. If its a popular name though, you'll most likely have to change that.

I take it I have to speak to in game GM to request reinstatement of deleted character? As opposed to calling someone up?

Should I make that request from the same server that original character was on? Or doesn't it matter? 

When asking about lost equipment, will I need to know what I had  or will they have logged what I had equipped/stored etc?

It is best to log on to the same server and speak to a GM directly (giving date and the names of the character(s))

The restauration of a freshly deleted character is immedialty. I don't know the timing of older characters.

The character will be restored with the gear it had on it. I think the bank items will be there too.

Guild references and such will be lost.
