Analysts, like gamers, are always interested in what's next. When Blizzard Entertainment president and co-founder Mike Morhaime outlined the plan for Blizzard in 2010 during Activision's quarterly financial results call today, he didn't mention the company's next MMO. Blizzard has publicly said it's working on an MMO not related to World of Warcraft, but has detailed little else.
Even when pressed by an analyst, Morhaime remained tight lipped on the next MMO.
"With respect to the product that we have in development," said Morahime, "which is an new massively multiplayer online game, we have not announced any details with respect to that game or the intellectual property associated with it other than to confirm that there is an unannounced MMO currently in development at Blizzard and that it is not a direct sequel to World of Warcraft."
Blizzard has reiterated several times this is not a replacement for World of Warcraft. Thoughts?

**Notice the words "not a direct sequel to World of Warcraft"

It sure sounds like a mmo based off something inside the Warcraft Universe. WoW 2.0 ?

They've said many, many times prior to this that it will be a completely new IP.

It's a completely new IP. I'm not expecting any solid news about it before it reaches 5-7 years of development considering Blizzard, unless they get leaked somehow (even purposely, to generate hype and discussion around it while still being able to change it as it won't be suffering from the too-early-announcements issue).

Blizz typically do not leak anything until they feel ready for the world to start talking about it.

Blizz has cancelled projects that are well into production stage.  I recall some kind of comics or whatever.  They have the money to fool around and drop products not deem worth the label of Blizz.

Blizz is known to polish and polish something to death, before even thinking about release.  They can afford to delay their delivery, b/c they know anything with the Blizz label will sell millions of copies.

Just sad news for us, we have to wait for another decade or so b4 seeing a beta.

Come to think of it, if Blizz can deliver a game like Warcraft (RTS) or Diablo, such quality and ... , if they can do so every year, I am afraid most competition will die.  On the other hand, we have other titles that try to fill in the void, many of them are good attempts.  I am currently playing Dragon Age: Origins, its good.

I am still hoping SC2 beta will begin this month, with all WoW accounts needed to be moved to Bnet 2.0 this month it looks hopeful.  I then just have to pray I'll be included, but if not its OK cus in true Blizzard tradition there wont be an NDA so loads of videos to watch.

As to the new MMO I guess we'll get a little bit-o-news at next years blizzcon, as SC2 ans probably cataclysum will be released by then then only other game they'll have is D3 so there's room then for another.
