I have already pre-ordered AoC and have been reading a lot of threads, good and bad. If the game lasts 2 months then I have had my monies worth. More importantly I think its hard to judge a game in beta and not being able to level past 30 or so. Every MMO up to about level 20 have pretty basic combat and it gets quite dull. Post level 30 most MMO's will have the sexy spells, combat moves, weapons etc. You can't get a taste for that in Beta. I watched Tabula Rasa get slammed and still get slammed actually but for some reason I enjoy it and once again up to level 20 it was a little simple with the weapons but post level 30 there are some uber moves and weapons and its just a load of fun. So unless I witness, play and try a game to its full potential I have to take all comments good or bad with a pinch of salt. I have seen some people write the graghics are not that good...confused because the screen shots look amazing and all previews say its ground breaking so I am wondering if you are playing on low specs?

AoC is very different from WoW so if you love WoW it would be difficult to like AoC. That being said, it boils down to preference and clearly the numbers are in WoW's favor. WAR will be something I'd suggest to WoW players who are looking for something that is new and a bit different. It will good, but don't go into another MMO comparing to WoW or you will always find disappointment, not because WoW is the greatest ever, because all MMOs are different and it takes time to get use to them and learn the ins and outs before making a fair judgement. |

To the OP, You should not rate a game just from it's open beta.
There, I beat the thread. |

Conan is a very low end static game wich uses media in a really good way to fool people about its content and gameplay. |

Sorry to burst your bubble my friend but you couldn't be further from the truth in many respects. Its funny because a lot of people said those things about WoW when it was released. That it was just another EQ1 / EQ2. As for "grabbing a few things from sever games and slapping a name on it" thats EXACTLY what WoW did to a large extent. This ain't Funcoms first MMO. Not even Funcoms other MMO is completely F2P. And the bit that is, is due to the amount of money it generated, not because of poor ratings or subs. As for being static, its about as static as WoW is to be honest. But with more features than WoW currently has. Will AoC be as successful as WoW? Probably not. But that doesn't mean that its a failure either. No other MMO in history has broken WoW's sub record yet and they are all still going. Some stronger than others. And a lot have been going now for quite some time. |

I played open beta for wow and never got past lvl 20 and I absolutely loved it, LOVED IT. Seriously you should know in the first 10 levels if you will like it or not. From all I have seen of AoC it looks like a zoned WoW with absolutely nothing knew to bring to the table. So why should people change to AoC? btw WAR will meet the same fate as AoC. |

Originally posted by PraxusNow above is a very objective and well motivated answer to it all. :) Conan is a very well camouflaged off line graphics engine marketed as "the next generation" MMORPG. If you have to wait 5 minutes(!) to load the graphics for one dungeon, I want to see the players that have the patience to work this out in a community for years to come. Just for the sake of "more pixels" they eleminated everything an MMORPG stood for these days: open seamless worlds where your avatar and YOU live in to have adventures with other people. But ... what's BEYOND the hi "defintion "pixeled tits? What do you DO if you meet for the 11th time the same half naked woman on a cross with its minutes long speeches and cut scenes? Skip it. Correct, I didn't found any gameplay in its first 13 levels. And the PvP ganking fest on saturday was a total abuse. Give me the WoW animation, art AND total control of my avatars anytime over Age of Stuttering please.

I have to say some of these posts are misleading. Like one commenting on how the combat isn't immersive. How would you really know? Open beta was up to level 13 for the majority of the time till they allowed it to go higher on the final days of the beta so you didn't even get close to experiencing it. Did you do spellweaving? Nope. Did you get all the skills for your class? Nope. So that would be a bit much to say it isn't immersive because you simply don't know. I have to say at first I found it rather simplistic but the higher I got I saw that there was "potential" for more. Unfortunately I did not get to see that because I couldn't progress far enough to know. Seen some vids and yeah it seems rather inventive to say the least. Especially the spellweaving. Point is you really can't say much from the beta. WoW beta wasn't a thrill a minute neither nor is it's first handful of levels neither. I wouldn't judge any game as a whole simply from that alone. As for community I don't think any community is immune to the immature. But I will say some guys seem to possess a better balance of the population one way or another. EQ2 I found to have a rather mature community for the most part. So far I'm not too impressed by some of the AoC community on their forums but I won't let that dictate which direction I go. I'll just surround myself with those I find I relate to and can have fun with and ignore the immature. So I'll probably go ahead and buy AoC but keep WoW going as well at least for a month or two to see how the game plays out and how quickly Funcom responds to the bugs that will certainly be there upon launch. Having more games to play is a good thing so I hope all MMO's have great launches. I rather have options than a singular choice...especially since I have been playing WoW since its launch. |
