I recall that a big feature in the game was going to be the player owned cities. This was especially important because it was part of the justicifiction for not having an auction house. I admit I haven't been following that aspect of the game lately, and I don't want to be accused of spreading disinformation, so ... we're getting pretty close to launch. How's that going?
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, GW, CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War, and a slew of free trials and beta tests |

well I'm not sure that player owned cities ever had anything to do with not having auction houses or a similar global search function for buying and trading items with other players. the point of not having that feature is so you will actually have to go "shopping" around in different regions of the world to try and find the best deals and interacting with other players. as far as player cities goes there isn't alot of information about it (to my knowledge) but i know you can build towns (it is a craft) just not to sure on the details. you might want to read the FAQ here the available information is all there, this is actually a pretty good question. i would like to know more information about the player cities as well if anyone has a link other than the FAQ witch has very limited info about it. |

It has been said for quite awhile (at least 6 months) that city buiding will not be in game until after release. The plan at release is to have plots players can buy and build on.
Little has been said about the city building apsect of the game. The ideas that have been floated around by the devs have been that diplomacy will play in role in geting permisson rights to build. Plans will needed to be obtained to build a city. Diplomacy and crafting will play a role in managing the city and cities health. Beyond that we have little information. The challenge they seem to have in city building is managing the cities health through work orders and diplomacy and how that will effect the surrounding players. I would imagine locations and building rights might be a problem as well. City building is one of the features I am looking forward to. They have so much to get done before release I guess we should be glad they willw ait until after release toi finish it rather than rush it through. |

Or maybe they should further delay release until they get things figured out.
Just an idea. |

The problem is there is only so much they can do. Vanguard is trying to implement so many innovative non-cookie cutter typoe features they have to draw the line some place. It seems they have drawn this line at the core. Even with poutting faetures liek city building, mounted combat and naval battles until after release they still have their hands full. Sigil talks about a march release if everything goes right. I don't really see how this is possible goven how much still needs to be done. My hope is for a winter 2007 release. This would still puit thier release ahead of Conan (don't believe Funcomn's March 2007 release date)and at least a year ahead of Warhammer but allow them to relase what will hopefully be a polished and fun game. If Vanagurd releases on schedule in March I see this game doing very poorly. |
