Vanguard will be EQ2s murderer, i mean why play EQ2 when vanguard comes out, vanguard is the TRUE sequel to EQ.

I think a lot of people have built up unrealistic expectations for Vanguard. I believe it will be a good game, but if you are expecting revolutionary, you are just building yourself up for disappointment. I also think there will probably be a few other big name MMOs released before vanguard, or shortly after. It won't be competing with EQ2 as much as it is with AOC, WAR and LOTRO. |

Indeed, EQ2 will probably die by itself since its a totaly desaster nowdays.
Impossible to find groupes, no new players, which makes the game dead. And all the other things as instance houses isnt just so good, and these adeventurepacks just makes the customers kranky cause they need to buy them and so on. But yes, i think many EQ2 players will start play vangard, since EQ2 woulde seem kinda old now days and they are probably out in the market looking for something new. I just hope that Vanguard dosent flop like D&L and seriosely, they need to do something about the game, you shouldent need 4gb ram to play it without any massive lagg. But i dont know about that, we will see. Starwars Galaxies, An Empier Diveded, That's what it says on my box anyway. |

Its odd how things turn out. I remember playing EQ2 on beta and when they lifted the NDA I complained about it bitterly. So many people thought EQ2 was the sequel and I can understand why they wouldnt accept my opinion. I remember the EQ2 verses WoW fights on this forum, even my friends were divided. But ... From what I have read on the forums about the game, the screen shots and movies, I get the feeling Vanguard will not disappoint the ex-EQ1ers. And I also feel EQ2 will die once this game comes out. Again this is only an opinion. Now playing: Nothing |

WoW took about half of EQ's subscribers, then EQ2 split that remainder in half. There's no way to know right now what Vanguard's general quality level will be, but if we assume it's roughly comparable and it tries to recapture "the essense of EQ" yet again, it will probably split the EQ/EQ2 playerbase three ways. This might limit the return on investment, but it's unlikely any of the three will "die." It costs a lot to launch an MMO, but that's a sunk expense. Once it's up and running, you don't need a huge number of subscribers to make a marginal operating profit. Nevertheless, when it comes to quantifying relative success of any enterprise the key factor is really market share. I find it a little funny people are still talking about what new game will "kill" EQ. Dude, that ship has sailed. |

I agree, EQ2 (and 1) no longer has a massive market share but what they do have is station pass. It will see plenty of active subs in the next few years, especially if they keep adding to it. I guess sony's new thing is "Cant make one game right?" Fine give them 100 and their bound to like 1-2 of them. The scary thing is their right...a few more "Decent titles" and who knows... maybe this is the next step in gaming evolution. Who controls the most online titles available under one monthly pass. |

EQ2 will do just fine for a long time to come. It's really a fantastic game if you actually play it. Many people still have 5 year old computers and just can't break the ram barrier to where it really shines. Funny how so many rabid WoW fans are so against Vanguard. This is because they are scared that their guilds population will thin out as people leave WoW for Vanguard. They're all just games to entertain us, not a religion. If you don't like one, there are a hundred other ones for you to play, no need to sit and bash them over and over, day in, day out.

Do you really think SOE would publish a game that anyone can suppose to be the "killer" of one of it's own games? - Which is all the more reason VSoH will be quite hardcore, no matter of often Sigil CEOs says its for everyone. SOE would not publish another game for the SAME audience.

Wasn't this reason that SOE wanted to publish Vanguard and why Vanguard was such a perfect fit for SOE. VSOH was a threat to take away EQ2's playerbase and becoming VSOH's publisher limited SOE's risk. EQ2 is already a dying game. IF VSOH is any good it will just be there to apply the killing blow. EQ2's subscription base is now already fastly approaching 100k. Once there is an alternative game for players to play people will leave in droves. I don't consider EQ2 to be a bad game but there is nothing good about the game. Everything EQ2 is midly mediocre, bland and well poorly done. Their design seems to have been to copy as many features from other games and throw them into a pot and mix and hope it comes out ok. Bascially a souless game without any underlying direction or vision. But what is most disspointing is they seem more focused on adding poorly implemented features to the game and not on quality. I don't mean to trash EQ2 as there are far worse games out there and in reality its really not that bad a game. But Its interestiung that most people agree that EQ2 is not a bad game but most people dislike it and hate to play it. Bland, mediocre and souless are the best descriptions I can think of about EQ2. If Vanguard even half lives up to its promise it will kill EQ2. At this point I expect EQ1 to long outlive EQ2. |

It's funny. I have an opinion on almost everything game related, but Vanguard's impact on EQ2? I have no idea. I can see a world in which EQ2 gets wrecked by Vanguard. And I can see a world in which EQ2 players are basically Cubs fans (no offense) who keep coming back every year no matter what happens. /shrug EQ1, EQ2, SWG, GW, CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War, and a slew of free trials and beta tests |

So by that you are making the assumption that the only people to play EQ2 are old EQ1 players? If EQ1 is hardcore, and Vanguard is hardcore, and EQ2 is not, then surely its a EQ1 killer, no? |

Best post so far I have to say. Praise this guy :P Discussing about games is Ok, everyone has his own opinion some ppls like chips other ppls dont but cause of some ppls dont like it, it doesnt meant to be bad. Well you know what I mean :P What I hate are fanbois who are defending things of their game even if they know its bad. Often it isnt even possible to discuss just normal on many forums (looking to WoW forums :P) cause to many ppls defending their games and bashing others instead of looking to things and say hey yea you are right I dont like this either in my game but I like the game overall or wutever .. they see a new game coming out and say its shit how could they know just cause of videos or pics ?? if u didnt play the game then you cant know it at all and even if you dont like it, ITS OK but other ppls do so no need to insult / bash or something just discuss normally. Its just this fanboi talking .... kids these days are really annoying and Iam sure if their parents would know how they are acting in forums, insulting other ppls they dont know just OVER A GODDAMN GAME they wouldnt allow their kids to play anymore, pls do us all a favor go get more outside and dont sit 24/7 in front of your PC if you are becoming stupid and brainless from it. I mean iam playing now really for a long time computer games, Atari, Sega, Nes, C64, Schneider, Amiga. PC you name it had it all, back in the past ppls just played for fun and rarely too but for around I dunno 7 years or so ppls getting really stupid and annoying, bashing other games, flame / insult users on forums etc ... what the heck is wrong with you ppls ?
