The funny thing is, I knew about the unfinalized graphic engine and missing lightmaps before I even touched Beta :D. People need to do their own homework on the progress of the game before making overgeneralized final judgments based off of interweb hype/anti-hype threads. Someone said the game felt like Cold 3d realistic graphics. That's 100% true when you look at screenshots and videos captured in areas that have basically no lighting effects going on. The feeling of warmth is achieved directly through correctly done lighting. I can't find anything to back up my statements because all of the videos that had good indoor footage with completed lighting, have seemed to disappear. Just wait and see, and hold off on passing your final judgment until their work on the graphic engine is completed (that goes for animations as well). |

Well some people just seem to look at a few pictures and some videos to do their judging. But i guess that is kinda what our culture is all about =P anyways, great comment =) |

Of course! I cannot wait, I have been following this game for about a year, I really think its going to be great. A lot of brads ideas remind me of EQ1, and when i first played EQ1 (before Luclin) it was challenging and rewarding and thats what i want :) Of course its going to be very different from EQ1 but i think it will hold the same feeling =D I hope!

I've been following the game for some time and like what I've seen so far, sort of eq2ish, nothing wrong with that. I'm more interested in the content of the game, I like what I've read about the diplomacy ideas, the crafting ideas, the fact that an ocean voyage takes some time to get somewhere. The creators from everything I've seen and read are wanting to make a game thats a little more challenging, nothing wrong there. So many games lately have lost sight of making themselves challenging, they feel that as long as the game is pretty you'll run the level treadmill and not want anything else from it. |

By your definition Van Gogh is a crappy painter compared to Thomas Arvid. The fact is that one game is stylized and impressionistic and one is more realistic. I happen to like both. But your preference for one does not make the other a "crayon box." Actually, with such different styles, I think it would be more like comparing a Van Gogh to an Ansel Adams. While I am sure many love the artistic style of a Van Gogh, ![]() I much prefer the work of Ansel Adams. ![]()

Graphics matter when your building a next gen game, a game that uses next gen tech. So your dead wrong in this regard J Rites of the Four Horsemen |

How is he wrong again? He is comparing this games graphical direction to that of oblivions. This game's graphic engine is next-gen. |

I think most ppl look how the graphics is. My most important critera is, do I get a good story told, and then technical aspects and only then graphics. BUT if I am going to chose and if I am supposed to stay longer I would really have a world with inspirations, with places that catch me and character models that feel homey. In terms of landscape Conan or LOTR just have the superior graphics and design. Looking far is a nice feature, but it kinda lacks the emotional catch.

You mixed my post with Datawights one, was confused cause I thought you are talking to me :P I really dont think the game will come out any time soon. More like middle of next year if we are lucky february / march. And you know what ? I dont care I dont want a half finished game then you play it and think wtf is this shit and never will touch it again .... Sure I would love to have it now but there is no point in it to play a game with many bugs, not polished spell graphics / animations etc etc ... right now I ordered me EQ2 which will hopefully hook me up until release of Vanguard. Sometimes I really wonder if alot of ppls on these boards are kids who are waiting for x-mas presents and cant wait, grow up find something else to do and dont cry the whole time it wont help. And if u ppls are not idiots you know it wont come out any time soon ... |

Having been a member of the Vanguard forums for some time now, I think I can answer your question. A vocal percentage of Vanguard fans are elitist as*holes who feel that playing EQ in the old days makes them a great authority on MMORPGs, since EQ was the only 'real' one. They hate WoW with a passion for various reasons...some justified (shallow gameplay, too many Bnet kiddies), some not (you don't need to grind as much as EQ, no corpse runs. you don't have to regen for five minutes between battles). On top of this, they believe that EQ was the MMO of choice for 'mature' players, and anyone who didn't like it must be an immature child. They now wish to turn Vanguard into EQ Redux, claiming that 'Brad made the game just for us!' and b*tch at and flame anyone who dares disagree with this ludricrous assertion. Although they're perhaps 15 to 25 of the board posters, they're super-vocal and try to flame any thread that doesn't fall in line with their EQ as*kissing. Frankly, they're a blight on the community and tend to end up ruining a great many good discussions we start on those boards, so I'm hoping the finished product drives them off, because if they're anything like they are on the forums ingame, community is going to suffer. |

You know nothing about the game, just its graphics. Have you done any reading? The game has a completely new and fresh combat system that will actually take skill. The game includes features such as diplomacy, many huge and small dungeons alike, flying mounts, player built boats and cities, and I can keep on going. |
