And I dont blame SOE/MS or Sigil for droping the ball. Its just sad :

Not sure why u don't blame SOE they let the game that customers were paying for drop into limbo no updates for over a year !!

But if it does go F2P there will be less impact from the community as now at least they can have a say and influence the devs SOE have eventually assigned to the game, i'm wondering if they were former SWG devs but as many in the community and my guild say F2P will bring inherant changes no doubt a if u like dumbing down to accomodate the influx of players.

But ironically i think this is the way to go or SOE will pull the plug as they see dollar signs and have no problem in killing a game or two stone dead !!

This^ I would pay the sub to gain access to the full game IF there were lots of people there. i know what you goin to say. " if you were playing the game right now that would be one more person there" doesent work like that. If VG goes f2p ill be right in line with the rest of you.

This was a screen of my Dark Elf Necro with pet. GOD i miss this game.

Me and my better half actually just started playing the game last week (I initially played at launch but quit after 3 months).

It's a really fun and challenging game (there's still corpse runs, since they haven't patched the game yet with the PTR version), although it's sad that there's not that many people playing the game.

I'm sure if it went F2P it would increase it's population, I also find it sad that folks that start in the Isle of Dawn miss out the wonderful racial starting zones, specially Ca'ial Brael.

But the beautiful part is that they can always go there and do the quests anyway. I like the IOD. Its  Great introduction to the game. Learing Diplo and Crafting cant be quite hard for some so this give them a nice shot at getting it early.

I waited till 50 then started diplo. I did however start crafting when i was lvling. Would get 5 advent lvls then get 5 crafting lvls. sometimes would just do crafting till i felt like adventing again =) its a great game. hope it goes F2P very very soon

Peep the sig out!! 2 of my VG toons.

The closure of the item mall they had back at the beginning of December , I think was the first clue. The announcement that content was on the way , and a team formed to add said content . DCOU , then EQ 2 , now EQ , hmmm wonder if there's a trend ? I'd say definitely . It has plenty of lower end content to go f2p , the upper lvl content is where the issue will be with Vanguard . Expect a model along the lines of EQ 2 . This game definitely deserves better then it got . The increase in population will be well recieved and deserved .

The question is, has going F2P increased the population of EQ2 and DCUO?

Oh I totally love Isle Of Dawn, my issue is that the rewards for IoD a far, far better than anything one could get in the original starting areas.

Perhaps they might revamp the rewards for those areas.

As much as Vanguard players would be upset by F2P (ok not all of you, but I saw the forums, a few were very sad at the prospects) I think it would be a great benefit to the game to go F2P.

I myself have never given Vanguard a shot even though I've wanted to for years because I'm afraid of SoE's reputation of nixing games...

I sincerely hope they game on the right track, it would be amazing.

Thank you. I was thinking of giving it a shot. But kind of weary due to server pop and the potential to go F2P. I was going to try the 14 day free trial, but I tired that awhile back and never had a chance to play it before thr 2 weeks were up...heh

They're really going to need to do something to show a lot of people that its worth playing. From my stand point, it just looks like a poor attempt at making an ever quest clone. I remember two of my non-MMO friends trying to get into this game when it first came out and I called them idiots for buying the game when they didn't know anything about it except that it was an MMO. But of course they loved ol' dumbed down WoW. When I looked at it, I just saw what looked like a 90's looking empty (as in buildings and structures and trees adn stuff) 3D wasteland filled with new players standing around. I had even told them to come check out some MMOs I was playing at the time and even told them this game didn't look like much. And what do you know, a week later, its like the game had stopped existing for them.

So I imagine this is a very forgetable game for a lot of people. It would have worked if MMOs weren't so mainstream I think. But you've got so many big budet MMOs now, that being a 3D fantasy game isn't enough (unless you're WoW and millions of dollars dumped into advertising). Even looking at the videos on youtube, it just seems dull. Everything has its hardcore fans though and maybe thats enough. It wasn't enough for the matrix online apparently.

But even with all that said, I'd still like to see vanguard go free to play and get new life Maybe they'll update it and find or reveal whats good about it. Like, what could I get from it rather playing another generic fantasy game

To expand on Sovrath response, only Trial accounts are forced to start in the Isle of Dawn.

Id rather play an EQ clone then a WoW clone. It sounds like to me that you yourself never even played the game so how do you know if it was "forgetable" or not. All i see are posts WISHING soe and microsolf handent droped the ball with this game. This game if done right could have been the game changer for the genre. Ill i know is every game i play today i compare it to VG and VG was relieced at what 65-70% and most of that was broken and it was still a better game then most.

I'm afraid i have to disagree with you.

I don't look at the game/game world as lifeless. I look at it as a world. this is not to say that there aren't things that can't be done to cities to make them a greater draw but I love that I can ride across country without getting acdosted every 20 feet by mobs.

As far as it being a generic fantasy world, I don't know of many fantasy games that have such interesting classes. Bards can make their own "songs", Necro's can graft body parts on their pets, the Disciple is such a cool class between martial arts warrior and healer.

This world offers a very good exploration experience. I didn't play EQ at launch because to me it looked atrocious. Started with Lineage 2 because the art design and graphics were more appealing.

Had Vanguard come out at that time and had it not been such a buggy mess I would have played it in a second and never looked back.

My only problem with Vanguard, aside from it being creaky, is that it sucks too much time from me and i don't have the time to spend. It's the only mmo that I subscribe to just because I want the ability to jump into and out of the game when my time allows. other theme park games are easier to block out smaller amounts of time.

Vanguard has too much for me to do and explore.

It's simply the best buggy, creaky, pve game on the market in my eyes.
